New Project-Turbo Diesel PIG Dreams-I want your input!

FINALLY back from 4 to 5 weeks on the road...

While traveling, I found another sweet old 55 in the Nevada high desert, likely picking it up for parts and potentially trading the remaining truck off for work on the current project. Totally rust free shell, and complete drivetrain that will supposedly run with a little love..awesome.

I've been focused on the K5 chassis swap idea and there's a lot of them around for 2 to 3 grand. Haven't pulled the trigger, as the work travel's been steady, but back on the hunt now, so we'll see.

Would love to go a more tech route with a Toyota TD option, but resources are limited right now...

Any comments on turboing a 6.2?
cost and such...

BTW, I'm still wishing I could go the non US spec 80 series for a full swap... but like I said, would love to be on the road this summer... if anyone hears of a wrecked 81 up there in CAN, lemme know!

Piggie gets some love finally

Home for the summer now, and able to give this project some attention...

I've been researching all along and come up with my full dream diesel chassis...but...I'm restless waiting for the right donor...and might have to keep this thread updated from the 55 society instead of the diesel...

here's why:

Came across a donor for my pig that absolutely couldn't be passed up. It's not a TD, but at least I can have this truck on the road fairly soon, and the body work and interior will get done and waiting for that day when the right diesel donor comes along.

I found a '76 in Nevada with roots in Northern Cali... I think it has some cool history, I'd swear I've seen images of this truck when it was young and in good condition. Possibly one of the early Chevota conversions??

I'll post a pic.

It's perfect for my project right now, in that it's body is pretty much done in all the suspect places(though I will say some of it is strangely really strong, such as doors, gate, roof, glass, etc.).
It has all of the interior needed to use as templates, all chrome, working electronics, including rear gate glass motor.
And, the real kicker: The frame and running gear in great condition, with a really clean, early 350 conversion! Turbo400 auto trans, 4 core rad, power steer, Edelbrock, nice headers, etc... The previous owner is a hotrod builder and the pig was essentially his 'Tonka Toy' for the kids to use out in the foothills.

So, I think I'll keep the thread I started in the 55 preservation society rolling and put this one here on pause.

I plan to do this right the first time, so all necessary prep to my rustfree body will get done before going on the Chevota chassis. Though temporary, I think this truck is going to be an awesome ride by end of summer.

I'll soon have quite a bit of pig parts in really nice shape... I intend to offer them on here for honest prices, maybe even a couple trades, rather than go the ebay route

I'll start taking pics today, riiight after I finish building the shelf system under the garage for a summer swap parts inventory

You might want to consider a Toyota diesel. Proffit's Cruisers does some of the best diesel conversions around and they offer Toyota diesels in their line ups.

12HT and 1HTD would be the only 2 I would consider if you go that route. Bear in mine that the 12HT is more of a highway motor and the 1HTD is a motor that you can lug. The 1HTD is wiked sounding. Mine sounds like a little Peterbuilt. And the turbo sound is like music to your ears.

The first of the side-by-side swap pictures

Two donors, let's see what this buggy turns out like...

This is the '76...
*Fully functional, well kept running gear - Nice Chevy 350(maybe crate), Turbo400 auto, Toy transfer, Edelbrock, 2.5" dual exhaust, 4core rad, disc, etc... stoked!!
*Really clean trim
*Full interior and electrical, some usable, some for template or restoration

This is the '70...
*this body will be about all that's used, and the rest I'll be cleaning up, and inspecting to pass on to those who need it

*I expect to have:
a full set of NICE doors
gate
windshield
grill & bezels
a full near-perfect stock rolling chassis
really nice '70 hood
various trim between both years
all other glass
miscellaneous OEM pig drive components(everything but the complete motor)
and the '76 body(which isnt actually at all bad-it's currently housing a running drivetrain after all) that could go off on the '70 chassis

Woohoo, here we go!
