New problem

OK, After replacing the starter, battery cables and installing a fusible link My cruiser still drags when I go to start it. Kinda like the battery is dead but it's new, I tried jumping it and the same thing happens. Cleaned the area where the ground cable bolts to the frame so what else could it be? Also, going to take out the electric fuel pump and reinstall a new mechanical one so I read that there are different arm lengths and to make sure you get the right one or you can skank your cam!! So, I need to know your thoughts on why the motor is still dragging, and what fuel pump should I get? Thanks

starter needs good ground to engine, and the engine needs a good ground to frame. Get some grounding straps, and make sure both of these are grounded well.

Seeing a recurring theme here? Grounds, first thing you should check, everything has to ground somewhere, and that ground is just as important as the 12v supply.

yeah, the starter grounds to the engine by attachment, there is a strap on the lower bolt of the starter that attaches to the frame, both clean attachments also. I am hopefully sure it's something as simple as a ground or similar but cant figure it out. Hoping some one has had similar problems and has input.

I'd get your battery tested and make sure it keeps a charge. I had my regulator go out (the one on the firewall) so all it would charge was 11.2 volts and it also ruined a 5 month old battery. its way easy and It kept me from trying to find a short(pain it the ass).

Problems almost solved

Thanks to the expert advice of PinHead and CruisinGA most all of my electrical problems are gone !! Now my fuel pump doesn't work, it's electric and generic brand of some sort. I have no way of knowing what the psi on output is or anything like that. The PO installed it years ago and I just noticed the original pump is in place So, I am going to reconnect the stock pump and see what happens. If it doesnt work what would you guys do. Go back stock or electric? thanks guys for all of the help in the past week !!!!

don't forget a good ground to the body. alot of stuff is grounded to it.
Ground from battery to motor, small ground wire to body off of battery, motor to frame.

It's always best to go stock with that kind of stuff unless you are working a specific enhancement like fuel injection. More people can help you with the way they are suppose to be instead of the way the PO did it.
