How's it going guys.

Long time lurker, first time owner. Just picked up a really clean '05 LC with 63k miles on it yesterday. I have been looking for months and finally found one that I liked so I ran as quick as I could and bought it the day after it was listed. People were calling about it while I was doing the deal! Guess I got lucky.

Been looking through the service manual and considering the age I was thinking that it might be a good idea to go ahead with the 90k mile service now? Do you guys think this is a good idea or am I being a bit crazy?

Other than that I will probably just do new tires and fix a couple odds and ends. Drivers door doesn't lock/unlock with the remote, you have to do it manually. I'm thinking that should be an easy fix I'll open up the door latch later today and see if I can do it myself.

Now I guess the hardest part will be finding a shop I trust enough to do the service on the car. Any Tri State LC owners on this forum have a recommendation?

I attached a pic. Cheers!

Welcome to the forum.

If you have records of regular maintenance then you don't have to do an extensive 90k service, but I would do an oil change. If it gives you a peace of mind, not going to hurt with a 90K service.

Wish I didn't sign up with twitter you guys are stuck looking at my face now. Can't edit my profile either.

Nice find! I grew up in Westchester County and I'm in the same boat in there are very few people I trust with my vehicles.

I'm up in Boston now, but if you are anywhere near Mamaroneck, NY go to Doug's Foreign Car Service. My family has been taking our cars there for years and back when I had an '01 4Runner he was great. Doug is the owner and a real straight shooter, won't sell you anything you don't need and knows what he's doing. Needless to say, this place is one of the few I would take my LC.

Nice guy, tell him the Abernethys sent you.

As far as your door is concerned I had the same thing going on with mine when I bought it. There is a much cheaper fix than going to a shop or a dealer where you will spend hundreds of dollars. To take the door panel off, go into the FAQ section and you'll find a "how to remove door panel" thread. Keep that open, then search for "door lock actuator replacement" and you'll find another how-to thread. I did it myself and it was pretty straightforward. Works like a charm now, new motors can be found here:

I ordered ones with the brass collar for my '06 but found that the stock motor did NOT have the brass collar. I improvised and took the old motor's plastic cap out and replaced it with the new one.

First thing, don't bother with the 90k belt service, you're good for at least another 25k miles.
Second, regarding your remote, does it unlock the other doors? If not, you may have a lose wire in your remote that will need to be soldered. You can usually tell by pressing the button and seeing if the little red LED on the key lights up.
If you are getting everything else to unlock, it is a switch in the door handle issue. There are posts on that in here.
Good luck and congrats!

X4 on the timing belt replacement. I had mine done at 12 years old and 87K miles and it was in perfect condition. I recommend changing all the fluids in the motor, trans, transfer case and diffs, etc and then start the fun mods.

Hey I can't thank you enough for this information. You really just saved me a decent amount of headaches. I ordered the actuator and looked over the write ups. Think I can handle doing it myself.

I will contact Dougs shop next week. It's a little bit of a drive but worth it for me knowing that all the work will actually get done.

Thanks to everyone else who posted information!

I plan on doing the 60k service, and getting all the fluids changed next week. I'll do Mobil 1 EP Synth for motor and probably OEM for everything else. Do you guys think Mobil 1 HM would be a better choice for this truck considering the life?

Is there anything else you guys recommend I do when I get it serviced? I'll probably clean MAF and tb, and do a fuel service as well. Any known issues with these trucks that should be looked over?

Happy to help, it really is pretty straightforward so best of luck. Get a trim removal kit from Advance/Autozone and save your fingers. Also if you pop the actuator clamshell in a toaster oven for a couple minutes it'll open up much easier.

Glad you'll check out Doug's place, nice guy and has earned our loyalty.

Best of luck! This place has been a lot of help for me so spend some time searching around, it's amazing what you'll learn

I just purchased a 2002 LX470 in blue vapor metallic with 58,400 miles 3 weeks ago. In the interest of full disclosure I paid $15,200 and I bought it from the original owner. The truck had not been driven much in the last 4 years and I went ahead and did what amounts to a major service based on time and not the mileage. I spent about 1k on parts and changed the water pump (evidence of leakage), thermostat, radiator cap, crankshaft seal, timing belt, serpentine belt, radiator hoses, heater hose tee's, fuel filter, air filter, as well as both front shock absorbers. The LX470 has the automatic height control (AHC) system and the right front shock was leaking. I changed fluids in the front and rear differentials , transfer case, and had the transmission flushed. The truck also has the Mark Levinson sound system and I found the rear sub woofer blown which is a common problem. I replaced the deteriorated foam around the paper cone with a kit form Simply Speakers for $18 and it sounds great. I have no trail rig plans for it; I bought it for my wife to drive due to the reliability & safety that they are known for. I have owned a 73 FJ40, and a 85 FJ60 in the past and currently drive a 2010 double cab, long bed Tacoma which I love. I had been looking for a 100 series LC or LX for almost a year and am glad I found one. I credit this forum and it's members for a lot of helpful tips and valuable information.

I forgot to mention that I also replaced inner & outer CV boots due to finding 2 of the 4 torn. I am in Phoenix, AZ and the truck was bought new here in the Valley so there is no rust. I have found the parts department at Camelback Toyota to be very helpful and provide some great discounts to members of this forum.

Quick Question:

OEM or Mobil 1 ATF fluid for tranny, diff, tc, and power steering?

Trans uses Toyota WS fluid, I would not use an alternative. Toyota says its lifetime fill but most owners do a fluid exchange at around 100k miles. Lexus recommends 7 years or 90k miles for timing belt and most change the water pump, etc. while everything is apart. I owned a 1999 LC with 58k miles back in 2007, it was a Tuscon AZ truck so a lot of hot weather. I did the service and the water pump was leaking and the timing belt was almost toast. Would not of lasted another 20k miles. Since your good for another 90k miles after the service use your own judgement, but if you guess wrong it's a $5-9k mistake. Go with synthetics on all the other changes and pump 3-5 pumps of grease in all 6 Zerts on the drivetrain every 5k miles. Looks like you found a nice low mileage LX, 2005 I think is the sweet spot for 100 series. It's the last year all the old pro's in Japan were still building them. They had a early retirement for the old timers at the end of the 2005 model year. Also in 2006 they added a air pump that has caused some owners some problems. Get yours baselined and continue to do the recommended services and you should have another trouble free 500k+ miles. Welcome to the club!

Where are the 6 grease fittings ?
