I'm inspired, I want one, anyone knows of how CA rules affect this muffler (sorry for hijacking)

Honestly, I don't think it's actually a "muffler"... But, I'm close to some local safety/IM guys (i.e. I work with them ;)), so I won't have a problem.

It's about the same sound level as a GMC Yukon with the Denali exhaust system. Which I like. And again, NO WHISTLE!! :D

Sounds good Lane, I would have never thought of using a cherry bomb on the cruiser. I put one on my Z71 back in the day but it made it quieter than stock, so I went with a flowmaster. The F/M sounded great w/ the 5.7L but I wasn't having to sit on top of it since it was under the bed. I'd imagine a F/M would drone in the land cruiser. Nice work on the Cherry Bomb, sounds great.

Yeah it sounds good. If I accelerate just right, it sounds EXACTLY like a Cummins. :hillbilly:

Are you running catalytic converters? If so, and it hasn't been done yet, and you want a deeper tone without a whistle.....gut them.

Before I removed them for straight pipes I had the same setup and it sounded GREAT. Low rumble until >~2k rpms then has a growl to it....real nice.

Now with straight pipes instead of cats (to fit sliders) it sounds a little raspy until >~2k then you should hear it...truly sounds like a big ass diesel. Have had people ask what diesel I'm running. Some black smoke out of the exhaust pipe helps too. Not gobs of it, but little puffs when I yam on it. But with no restrictions in the exhaust it kinda makes sense.

Can't run without cats... UT County emissions laws suck.

Haha, I had a friend who owned an 82 Toyota pickup with a flat bed. He put a stack on it, came out right behind the driver's door. It burned oil, too, so whenever he throttled it, smoke would billow out of the stack. It was awesome.

I've always wanted to put a stack on a diesel VW Rabbit P/U... :hhmm:

Gut 'em! Take a piece of pipe or rebar and jam it up in there. Wear glasses and a filter mask. Just pound the stuff till it's all loose then get it all out. Then for all visual purposes, you still have them.

Yes....illegal in all states. So I guess I'm suggesting for 'off-road use only'. Throttle response was a little better after that at cruising speeds. And the sound is amazing.

cool, mine kinda does that too.

It does sound good though, I agree on the trophy truck sound comment

Quiet you. :flipoff2:

I would, but it barely passes the sniffer test as it is.

I could listen to that video all day... Mmmmm, I LOVE the sound of a straight six...

Possible to hear a sound clip on the hwy? The tires will probably drown out the exhaust sound but I'm curious how it sounds!

Thansk.

Haha, all you'd hear is 4000 RPM and tires.

Very curious about the ramifications at the emission test station as well...not the visual inspection but the actual measurement of particulates.

I have two vehicles where I've recently had the cat 'flanged' on both ends (so you can take it in and out) then gutted them and put them back on. Emission are now coming due on one of these. I'm wondering if I'm going to fail due to increased particulates and be forced to go buy a new cat, have it flanged in the same manner, and install just for the test.

Depends if it fails or not...

My buddy's FIL has a 3rd gen Camaro (I want to say 1988...) with the 5.0L V8 and running catless. Still passes the sniffer test. :meh:

I've used those many of times in the past. Granted, we mostly used the cherry bomb mufflers as resonators and still use a hi-flow muffler in the back of the car. The red paint burns off after a couple of weeks and it blends in with the rest of the piping.

The sound isn't bad on the FJ80. Although I'd wonder how loud it really was when driving next to solid structures (walls, buildings, etc). At least with the longer tail pipe exit, that will bring some of the noise down a bit, but not much as a conventional muffler.

They have nothing to do with emissions, as you can still pass smog with it (I've done so in CA many of times with different cars). IMO, they're best used as a resonator that you're adding to an existing hi-flow exhaust system, but you can use it as a muffler if you really wanted to.

I like the way it sounds. Emanates a nice, deep growl, not like the rice rocket trash...:grinpimp:

If it is barely passing there could be something wrong... mine zinged passed the CA sniffer with flying colors

It needs a tune-up. But I'm still not removing the cats. :meh:
