So, my wife and I recently purchased this beauty! She's a 73 55 and we love her to death. For now she is my DD, but some mods will be done. For now I have only the pics that we had right when we got her and from the previous owner. A major concern that i have is one major rust spot in the floor board of the passenger front. Does anyone know good welder around gville that could help me out? a part of the frame is actually rusted out with this hole and a mechanic last weekend told me that if i came up to a stop and slammed on the brakes wrong the vehicle would pull toward the front pass. with the hole and possibly flip. This made my wife a little edgy. So now, instead of going straight into painting it myself (even though my wife loves the desert tan, i want it back to an original cygnus white/forest green), I am looking to get this fixed. I've welded before and my dad has done miracles with some cars, but he has even told me that this is a major job. we seem to think that when the guy added about 3 in of leaf springs, the bounce created a break right where the springs anchor to the body and then the rust started . . . What I will do is get pics of the area and see if anyone could help me out!! Thanks guys!

Also, I do not get many chances to check mud, so if i do not respond too quickly then know its for work reasons or i'm just having fun with the new "baby"/55. Thanks!

Get some pics of the hole so we can see. I would say based on your description that unless the frame is completely rusted through your mechanic doesnt know what hes talking about. Even if the floor were rusted out right on the body mount so that mount was no longer holding anything it still wouldnt pull to the front and possibly flip. There are 5 others mounts doing their job. And if the frame were so rusted through in one spot that it could cause said problem then you shouldnt be driving it regularly in any way shape or form. But anyway its all somewhat speculative without a pic.

I bet I could help out, I know a few guys in S. Florida that can weld. Really cool 55 Congrats!

thanks guys . . . pics coming soon!

Very, very nice! And as has been said, if the hole is that bad, you wouldn't drive it for other reasons than that!

Body mounts are easily replaced, and so are the floorboards (well, I guess easy if you can weld that is). Mine is currently undergoing that treatment as we speak!

Nice piggy, well done!

Nice Piggy! i poked around it when it was in Raleigh. Is that the origin of the nickname as well? Have you slapped any pedestrians w/ that antenna yet?

haha jfz80, yes i have begun a points process where certain genres of people are a certain amount of points. actually i took it off to drive back home and have just left it off since. i've fixed the major problems with it from the points that I had originally seen it, and probably what you saw. we love it now and we just got the few issues with that spot and the gas tank overflowing (which has just recently come to our attention) . . . all in all, she's coming along

oh, and by the way the origin of the nickname actually came from a friend of my wife and myself. . . but it was just coincidental that this is where we bought it too, so it worked out

when we first got her, she was so dirty and nasty, but we took a full weekend to clean and clean and she looks awesome now . . . has about a 2 year old paint job now i think and it shines . . . i still want it to be original white/green . . . to come in time

I don't know man I'm likin the tan...somethin about it says lets go drive across the desert...sweet lookin rig

thanks! yeah, the tan is a pretty awesome color and it has tan interior so it looks great and i get a lot of compliments, but i don't know yet . . . i still have a ways before i can make a decision b/c the funds are not in yet to truly make a choice of paint or mods . . . oh well, we shall see
