Hello everyone,

My name is Pedro and I’m a new member from Miami, Florida. I recently became the proud owner of a 1997 Toyota Land Cruiser 40th Anniversary Edition, and I’m excited to finally join the IH8MUD community.

I’ve always appreciated vehicles that are built to last, and after spending time learning about the 80 Series, I can see why these trucks have such a loyal following. Mine is largely stock, and my goal is to preserve it while gradually restoring and improving it both mechanically and cosmetically.

Right now I’m working through a few maintenance items:

  • Replacing the power steering high-pressure hose due to a leak. I ordered one from Vintage TEQ Parts, but unfortunately I haven’t been able to get a response from them regarding my order, so I’m currently trying to figure out my next move.
  • Rear main seal leak that I’ll be addressing soon.
  • EGR valve service/repair.

Once those items are sorted, I’d like to continue bringing the truck up to the standard it deserves. I have plans for additional maintenance, preventative repairs, and some tasteful cosmetic improvements while keeping the classic 40th Anniversary character intact.

I’m looking forward to learning from the wealth of knowledge on this forum and hopefully contributing where I can. I’ll post pictures of the truck soon.

Thanks for having me!
Pedro

One thing I could use some advice on: my power steering high-pressure hose is leaking. I ordered a replacement from Vintage TEQ Parts, but I haven’t received any response regarding my order. If anyone has a trusted source for a quality hose that can ship quickly, I’d be grateful for the recommendation. I’d like to get this leak taken care of sooner rather than later.

Hopefully you paid by credit card or PayPal.

Check the "Bad Sellers" forum in the classifieds section under the forum menu.

Don't snooze on getting payment reversed if you hear nothing back

Welcome....
In a pickle, spend the extra $ and get it from the dealership. They always have 15-25% promos once in awhile.
And read up on the "Bad Seller" forum under the classified tab like mudgudgeon said.
I make a list of parts and i wait till there's a 25% from dealerships or on Blackfridays and holiday sales and purchase items from the list.

@arcteryx is a highly trusted member and I run this hose it’s 1/3rd the price of OEM and he offers a 2 year warranty.

That heater valve on the firewall that looks brown in the picture - REPLACE before it falls apart and leads to overheating and sadness...

Given the sardine can clamps on the hoses - they are more than likely all original - I'd be looking at replacing all of them. Search also for PHH and there's an even more PHH that's under the intake manifold area. Change all those hoses out too.

Summer is coming....

cheers,
george.

You'll hear that OEM is the only way to go, and for good reason. That said, the power steering hoses are one instance where many go with rock auto without loosing any sleep. Good advice given on the heater valve, While you're addressing that you'll want to wrap the engine harness near the egr valve. If you want to dig a little further replace the vacuum hoses under the manifold. If you do that consider the PHH, injectors, and fuel filter. Of course at that point you're only 12 more hours from having the engine out.

Seriously though, coolant hoses heater valve and harness @ egr should be high on your list.

One other tip on the forum side of things: everything has been done and documented here. Best way to find information is to Google "80 series [prompt]". Etiquette here is to do your due diligence on search before posting questions.

Beautiful rig and welcome to the madness!

Welcome to Mud
Nice looking truck and you should know the the super charger is a very rear option!

Thank you George. Ordered the following all OEM:

Coolant hose set.

Thermostat and gasket.

Radiator hose set with clamps.

Heater Valve and hose kit.

PHH Pipe and hose.

Power steering hose 44411-60430.

EGR Valve.

I couldn’t find FPHH anywhere.

Any more suggestions? Does this take care of “Given the sardine can clamps on the hoses - they are more than likely all original - I'd be looking at replacing all of them”?

Thanks again for the information.
