Hello I just inherited an fj80 from my dad passing and want to restore it, it is all stock and everything is there, it needs to be cleaned up. The exhaust is falling apart at the catalytic converter and he also replaced the engine when he got it but said it used coolant and never was able to find where it was going. Just wanted to say hello.

Welcome and condolences. You're either leaking or burning coolant. The latter is usually easily detected by the color and smell of your exhaust. Have you tried a pressure test yet?

Welcome to Mud
You have come to the right place.

Great keep sake to restore your Dad Cruiser.

Please post pictures were a visual crew

Take it to an exhaust shop and have them fabricate a new exhaust for your 91.. that was the easiest for me.

And if you're going to crawl, make sure the exhaust stays above the bottom of the frame

I have same model, 1992, I had a slow coolant leak also. It was top radiator hose. A small leak the coolant may evaporate before you see a drip. In process of restoring mine LC now. I just replaced the radiator, the old was in much worse shape than I could see before removal. Had some leaking areas, again no drip evaporated as it leaked. Probably best to replace all your hoses and belts. Added pic of old radiator. All the green indicates slow leak. Notice almost all fins corroded away. And it still cooled fine
