I bought a headliner kit from one of the Land Cruiser aftermarket companies. 350.00ish bucks. Dropped my cruiser off at the headliner shop to have it done. Was told 3-5 days. Now 35 days later he has said i give up. That's the best i can do. Paid him 300.00 for his time and effort as i know he worked his ass off on it trying to get it right. . Bottom line is it looks like s*** and i want to tear it out. I have had one other person look at it and he says it doesn't look like anything i can repair and doesn't want to mess with it. I'm going to have one more person look at it and see what he says. I guess my question is ,is there some trick no one is seeing? Should i go with a different aftermarket supplier and hope to get my money back on this one? I need to get this done so i can get my glass back in and get on with my project.

The shop says its the headliner . I doesn't seem to have any stretchablity so i tend to believe him. At the same time I'd hate tear it out and buy another headliner kit and have similar issues.

Pics would be helpful. What kit did you buy exactly? Maybe some of us have the same kit successfully installed and can call BS on what your guy is telling you.

I can try to get some pics tomorrow. The liner kit itself came from SOR Specter offroad. It lines up ok. Its the stretch that's the issue.

I think I have that kit and it looks great. Get a closeup of the fabric for me to compare and I'll send you some pics of mine installed.

Thats promising. Maybe i can find someone who can fix it. Went with the vinyl for clean-ability.

I purchased the SOR vinyl kit headliner in 2010 and had it installed a few years ago. It fits well and taught. Pleased with the product. I will add that the margin of error is very small and tolerances in some spots tight. The most important part of the process was establishing the true centerline from right to left. Some spots barely had a fold over. Once installed it may be difficult to get someone to tackle the fix unless its explained that the headliner can be sacrificed of needed - depends on the error. Posting pix will help provide further feedback. I should add that my installer did complain about the tolerances but he is an interior specialist professional currently working on Singer Porche 911 custom models.

I was told by the guru at SOR that ALL the glass had to come out to do it right. I passed. Don't know if this is your issue or not.

Yes, the windshield and rear quarter windows have to come out to replace the headliner (at all). Door glass doesn't, nor does hatch glass, just the welting around the door openings.

I'll try and get some pics today. All the glass is still out. Hoping to have it repaired or redone before reinstalling the glass. Trying not to have to pay for everything multiple times.

vinyl is hard to work in winter.

Sorry no pics. What Ive decided to do is order a new headliner from SOR and take it to another shop. Hopefully they can salvage whats there. if not they will have a backup option.

Some shops will sew a headliner from their own material. I had a shop make a headliner for my FJ55 from the remains of the OEM headliner. It was $300 (15 years ago) and looked very nice. He used perforated vinyl so that the roof might be properly ventilated.

You might consult with another shop about this before purchasing yet another SOR headliner.

Already ordered it just to have it on hand. It opens up some options. Hopefully i wont need it and can return it.

Recently finished mine. My advice is detailed in my thread. If I would do it again, I would start at the pillars first. Then work back and to front from there. Trickiest thing I've done in a long time.

Last one on page 4

Finally - Reassembly - my slow build of "no name"

If you are not doing a restoration, what are the downsides to removing the headliner and putting insulated sound deadner on the roof?

EDIT: Should have said delete headliner and install Dynamat and do not reinstall headliner.
