The :princess: now drives my Lexus which left me with 2 80s and I'm only one man. Luckily I found a guy in the classifieds wanting to trade his 60 for an 80. :hhmm:

4 hours of air conditioned, cruise controlled comfort later and we are meeting in Kettleman City up on I-5 to pick up an 85 FJ with an OME medium kit and no working AC. Sunday was a bit warm, if my memory serves me correct. :hillbilly: To make matters worse, everytime I get off the freeway the temp spikes. I tightened up the squealing fan belt in the Carl's Jr parking lot which seemed to help a bit and it made it home (even up Tejon pass) without incident.

My very pregnant :princess: was quite the trooper on the 6 hour drive home at 55-60mph and I have a hell of a tan on my left arm now.

Monday morning comes and I decide to tackle the overheating. The FJ came with a complete spare engine that I noticed has very new OEM hoses, a nice shiny fan clutch, and what looks to be a new water pump as well. A few hours later and I have a new OEM thermostat (found it in a box in the back, score!), newer fan clutch, and one new OEM hose (the easy one to get to) and I'm cruising around with somewhat lower temps. It wasn't until I properly burped it that I got the temps under control. Amazing what a difference that made.

I had the R12 charged yesterday and it was really starting to feel good...until it started leaking out of the manifold on the compressor. :bang: It was good enough to keep me cool on the way home but the compressor is making an awful growling noise. Do I pull the compressor off the extra engine and risk losing more R12 in case it too is no good ($$$) or do I just bit the bullet and get a new Denso from Rock auto and know that it's going to be perfect. Decisions decisions....

All in all I'm pretty stoked on the deal. It came with:
All new brakes from $OR. I mean everything. Calipers, pads, drums, rotors, braided lines, wheel cylinders.
Knuckle rebuild kit from Kurt
The aforementioned engine
FSM
OEM Thermostat
Smittybilt center console with stereo slot and cup holders (much nicer than I was expecting)
Full length roof rack

And a bunch of other stuff that I'm probably forgetting. We're going to drive to Puerto Vallarta for our honeymoon in August and I'm hoping I'll have this sorted out enough to take it. It just feels good to row through those gears. You know what I mean?
