Hey Gang!

Well.. I did it.. After looking at the FJ-55 pigs for 20+ years.. I finally pulled the trigger on one!

Basically another project that I won't be able to get to right away.. I have a few.. Got a 72 240Z, a 67 NISSAN PATROL, and an old Ford F100.

But wanted to get one of these FJ-55s because I have been noticing that I don't see them around much anymore, and I allways loved the look!

On that note, she is actully in pretty good mech shape.. Starts up fine, goes down the road pretty straigt and all.. Granted like most it has the rusted out fenders and rear wheel wells, but the rest is in pretty good shape..

So my plan is to someday to a full up restor, but in the mean time I just want to get her really road worthy..

On that note, allow me to show just how little I know about the FJ-55s by asking a question

How do you open the rear window?

I don't see any roll up/down handel on the inside or out.. So I assume that it is an el motor? Maybe controled by the key? The girl I bought it from has only owned it for a couple of years and she has never opened the rear door do to not knowing how to lower the window!

Anyway.. Thank in advance and I look forward to some good FJ-55 info and topics!

yup! the back window rolls up and down with the key. Just stick it in the lock in the rear and rotate either direction, one direction goes up, other goes down. I would recommend helping the window up though, as the plastic gear on the inside of the gate tends to break!

hope this helps! Welcome to owning a pig!

there's also a toggle switch on the dash. if it doesn't go, listen for the motor...it you hear a motor and the window won't move, the plastic gear is broken. if you don't hear a motor, most likely the safety switch, or a rotten junction block. either way, they both require removing the rear tailgate panel and manually removing the window to get the tailgate open. although a junction block can be replaced with the tailgate closed, the others will require removing glass at the least

Glad to see someone else rocking the vintage roof rack!

Where you at, PRESUV? Good luck with the restoration project. Show us some photos of the interior sometime. Too bad someone blew the rust moniker. You many be pulled over and lectured by Chemistry teachers. Here's what ferrous oxide looks like.
