I have been lurking around for the last couple of weeks and finally deiced I should say hi. I have been a member on here for a while but was always over in the 40 section or over in the hard core corner. I sold my built 40 and the bug just never died so I just finally got back into getting a project. It's going to be a long haul mainly cause i was informed from the wife that i can't build it much for a few years (never happen). Now to the new to me 1st gen, I will try and post some better pics here in the next few days, i need to remember how its done and get some on my phone. I have been after my neighbor for the last few years about selling me his 4 runner and finally all the asking paid off. I was able to pick it up for more than a fair price. It is in pretty good shape and has 110k original miles and was a one owner. The plans for now are new rear springs or add a leafs, shocks and hopefully some 31's to get me by for awhile. I plan on start collecting parts for the future and just enjoy driving for now so my tundra can rest comfortably in the shop:beer:

Wow clean rig, I bet it won't stay that way for long!

Not very many at all. I was wondering if somebody would know right of hand what year body panels would interchange. I need to find front fender and bumper ends and some other odds and ends. The pick and pull nearby has a 82 and I think they will work but not sure. Also from what I read the 85 front axle is best but what other years would work 80 and up?

4WD pickup and 4Runner use all the same front sheet metal. 1984 - 1988 models (through 3/89 on the 4Runner). 1982 bits will not work. If you are going SAS then look for an 1984-85 axle (85 for sure). It has the extra gusset that the early axles did not.

Thank you sir.
I have been wading through the fact section and was not exactly sure. I have plenty of time so hopefully I will stumble across an 85 for parts.

I have another question for you guys. I am going to get new exhaust put on hopefully next week. I am trying to remember what size you should run and if there are any new products out there. I am not putting on a header just staying stock for now so am I better off going keeping the stock pipe till the CC then going 2" to muffler then 2 1/4 out. I think I did that with my old 87 but that was years ago. I wish I could remove the CC but they will have to put it back on. Any new ideas?
Thanks Jim

I thought I would post up some current pics. I installed a add a leaf in the rear with some new shocks all around and put on some 31" Generals. I finally was able to get the new front fender on and buffed and waxed the old girl. I was surprised with the shine once all the old build up was off. Next is the new exhaust.

Keeping the Cat isn't a bad thing, and the engine is tuned for it being there. On my '84 22R I went with mandrel bent 2.25" from the 'Y' of the stock head pipe (kept the 'Y', cut off after it at the end of the merge) all of the way out. Used all of the stock hangers. Only pic I can find of that system:

I have been going through the FAQ pages and haven't found what I am looking for yet. I am going to have to replace the front CV axles since the boots are torn pretty bad and sure they have been for years. What manufacture should I go with they makes a decent axle? I have looked it up online and found that CARDID has a few different ones and RockAuto has a couple, just wondering which one to use. I would imagine that OEM from Toyota is going to cost but if that is the better axle shaft then I guess.
Thanks
Jim
