2013 GX460 w/ 75k miles
There is noticeable resistance when shifting from park to drive. The dash gear indicator does not show D when driving. Dash indicators: CEL (P0705), No Trac and flashing 4Lo. Drives fine as far as I can tell.
This has happened twice in the past year or 2. I cleared codes the 1st time and issue never resurfaced. 2nd occasion the dash lights and shift resistance went away after sitting overnight. Lexus could not replicate the issue when I was in for regular service.

My search points to neutral/park position switch. Anyone have any experience replacing this component?

Much appreciated

May check parking lockout, must depress brake to unlock shifter to move out of park.

the only time I have this issue is when my cell phone blocks the shifter or a earbud case is on the shifter boot.

This same issue happened to me today while driving to get my emissions checked. I failed because code P0705- Transmission Range Sensor A Circuit code came up. I don't know why having a transmission issue would make me fail emissions, but my bigger concern is losing the [D] indicator and 4Lo flashing. Does anyone know if this is a sensor that can be replaced?

P.S.- I've noticed some change in the feel in shifting into Drive, almost like it's out of alignment or something. Is there a wear item that could cause this? Have just over 155k on the odometer.

Update: All symptoms went away the morning after my original post and the truck was working normally. I decided to take it to a local shop I'm familiar with for a diagnosis. The mechanic saw the P0705 stored but could not replicate the issues. He cleared the codes and told me to bring it back as soon as the symptoms resurface.

It had been driving fine the past few weeks until Sunday night when symptoms reappeared. The following morning it barely got into Drive on the way to the shop. Made it out of the driveway but stopped at the bottom of the hill. Just revved like it couldn't get into gear. Got a tow to the shop. Confirmed the Park/Neutral switch is dead. But also the trans. is dead. Apparently 1st gear is completely gone.

So it seems I am in the market for a new transmission....

Wow! Sorry to hear about the trans failure at 75k!! Have a GX470 with the P0705 issue intermittently. Hope I have better luck than you had. I suppose I should get my truck fixed ASAP.

Ouch. I have this problem now. Same symptoms as OP:

My googling does not indicate anyone fixing it. I reset the code and it came back. Truck drives normal and shifts like it always has: 167,000 miles. Any help?

If it was mine (without other odd transmission gear shifting issues) I would be swapping out the park/neutral switch (P0705)

So I went outside and popped off the gear selector surround. Pretty dusty down there. I jiggled a few things and snapped it back. Now all the correct lights come on and it shifts normally. Will keep you informed.

What is weird is the mushy resistance in the shift lever. I pictured some french fries or garbage in the shift lever (thats why I pulled up the surround). Of course nothing was down there, but it does seem that there might be a connection problem in the physical shift knob.

Mine just went in for this, switch was also bad, didn’t drive it long at all. Transmission is shot at 52k miles and Lexus said I’m on my own. Tried for some Good Will, didn’t get it.

Took the truck to our local Lexus dealer (had good experiences there before). They did an inspection as I think you can watch below. The brake job I will do but I am having them put the switch on (it is pictured in the video and above this post as just the part). He says they might be rusted and they have had to cut them off. Below is also the PDF of the cost.

I know this is an old thread but I have had similar issues and same code… interestingly, I only have this issue occur when it rains heavily. Some additional things that happen to me when this acts up is: the a/c keeps running after I turn off the vehicle, the led light by the shifter remains on, the dash says “turn off engine”, and my vehicle key fob no longer locks/unlocks... at first I thought there’s no way it can be due to rain, but each time it rains heavily and I’m parked uncovered or driving in the rain, without fail I end up getting this code. I’ll unplug my battery, let it sit a day or two and then the codes go away, the vehicle works normally again. Anyone have any ideas?

Maybe you should move to one of the "sunshine" states!
Seriously... first off, what year is your GX?
Do you get any water intrusion in the cab after a rain?
Have you tried hosing your rig down in specific areas only, one at a time, to see if you can isolate the problem?
Example:
  1. Hose down from the front hood forward and down, right side only. check your ignition.
  2. Again, left side only. Again, check your ignition.
  3. Then hose down the front half of your rig, including the windshield, sunroof area and down side windows. Again, check your ignition.
  4. Finally, if you're still not able to replicate the issues, hose down the back half. Again, check your ignition.
  5. If still not getting the same problems come up, try hosing the under carriage, spraying water upward, but not a hard spray.
One of those tests should make your issues come up again, then you may be able to better locate and diagnose the problem better.
Good luck!🤞

Thanks for the suggestion. I haven’t been brave enough to hose down the specific areas that I think would generate the issue to reoccur lol my local mechanic got some start failure codes but of course not the one I have as getting. He tested the battery and alternator. Both of which seem to have gone bad. I am going to replace both and hope this is a weird electric gremlin related to moisture and bad battery+alternator. If that doesn’t solve it, then I will have to bring the truck to him and tell him we are hosing down the area with the transmission sensor lol

If you're replacing your alternator, any need for a 240 + amp? Or are you mostly stock with just a few low voltage accessories. If so, I've had a couple of Tuscon alternators in different rigs, and they've very good to me so far.

I definitely need higher power alternator so I’m highly considering it. Just need to figure out where to grab one from.
