I have a built fj80 just for the record.
I have an opportunity to get a 89 4runner, v6, 130k, manual trans, obviously 4x4 from a friend. Off roading consisted of fire roads at best. Besides the obvious what should i look for. Any issues? It'll be for my 17 year old daughter. $2800.00

On a v6, ask about timing belt and head gaskets for sure. Check coolant and ask about ANY overheating. 89 should be pre- HG issue but I would ask.

Other than that, basic maintenance and body rust would be where I would look.

Seems a little high but not unreasonable. Could be a good deal if you could talk him down a bit.

It's a west coast truck so its in pretty descent shape, no rust. I remember my 90' truck had hg blown at 150k. Thanks i forgot about that. I don't think the timing's been changed yet. When and what caused the hg's to blow?

IIRC hg problems was on all 3.0 motors. My 88 pickup had to have the motor replaced at 100k.

I've read that Toyota was still covering this warranty at least in 2010. That's crazy.

I thought that in the early 90s Toyota had to stop using asbestos in their HG and it was a few years before they found a good replacement.
