Hey everyone, I found a few threads on this forum about speaker replacements on their GXs, but haven’t found anyone that has done a full system replacement yet. Maybe I haven’t looked hard enough, but as of now nothing.

I am looking to do a full system (except my rear doors) upgrade on my 2005 GX470 Non-Nav Non-ML. I’m a complete noob when it comes to car audio, so I’ve been doing some research on different threads & have come up with a few components I think would work. Still very uneasy in this topic, so any help/feedback would be greatly appreciated.

What I’ve come up with so far is replacing the front door tweeters & lower door speakers, adding a CarPlay unit, a 10” sub (space isn’t a concern for me as I don’t use too much of my trunk) with a 1.65 CuFT enclosure, and a mono amp for my sub & 4ch for the speakers. And my main priority is sound quality that can be loud, but mainly quality over loudness.

Debating on 2 head units if anyone has experience with either, it’d help

Head unit: Sony XAV-AX5500 & Joying 9” GX/Prado Unit

Tweeters: Image Dynamics XS-28

Lower Door: Morel Maximo 6 6.5” Components

Sub: Image Dynamics IDQ10 V.4 D4

Amp: No idea yet, need some help in this area

Scrap the Image Dynamics tweeters, I’ll just use the ones that come with the Maximo 6s

Too bad you didn't get the ML system. Unless you're into bleeding eardrums, ridiculously loud sub-harmonic bass, etc. the ML system sounds great to me.
Albeit, I'm not an audio aficionado or audiophile but I do sometimes enjoy some good music at a full volume. Note: at full volume is a volume where the instruments should sound if seated next to an orchestra pit without amplification. Not full volume meaning everything is cranked to 100% volume.
Just an FYI my music styles range from:
  • 60- 70's rock: Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Niel Young, Jimi Hendrix, Blind Faith, etc. None of that McCarthy pop stuff.
  • Baroque classical: string quartets and quintets, requiems, etc., Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, Vivaldi, Arcangelo Corelli, Georg Philipp Telemann, etc.
  • Celtic: general bagpipe tunes (reels, hornpipes, jigs, etc.) Wicked Tinkers, The Chieftains, 7 Nations, etc.
  • Bluegrass Gospel: Ralph Stanley, Bill Monroe, Stanley Brothers, Alison Krauss, Ricky Skaggs, etc.
  • Blues: Southern deep raw like Robert Johnson, Leadbelly, Darrel Mansfield, etc. None of that northern Chicago fusion style.
  • Country Swing: Of course Bob Wills (king of country swing!), Asleep at the Wheel, Adolph Hofner, Tex Williams, etc.
  • Christian coffee house, which is generally Christian acoustic.
  • 40's swing and big band
