So I have the last year of the snorkel neck style fuel tanks, but my oem tank has 4 vent tubes coming out for the charcoal canister.
Toyota (77100-60012) and aftermarket like CCOT only sell the earlier snorkel style with a single vent tube!

Its possible the oem cannister led to my current tank to leak from overexpansion, but I see places like Redline providing new style charcoal canister.

My question is what are my other options other than a junkyard oem tank,
I would love for my 40 not to smell like gas fumes! (FYI my vacuum switching assy is long gone)

Older style (what’s available from Toyota, one vent next to filler neck)

What I have currently( 2 vents on left, 2 on right next to filler neck)

On my 72 the port you labeled "return" is my supply. A few years after I got her, she started to smell gassy. it turned out out one of the seams in the gas tank started to weep. I did the alcohol proof gas tank liner from JC Whitney (1986?). I has never smelled gassy since.

In your first pic, what is labeled inlet pipe is the vent. What is labeled return is the feed line. There is no return on the early tanks.

Do you have the weird evap / charcoal thing in the middle seat?

That pic is just for reference, I didn’t label it! If you mean the crossover tubes on the back of the middle seat yes.

My charcoal canister is in the engine bay which would also run a line from there to the vacuum assy (early evap trash)

Look I just don’t want to eliminate the canister if it means it will smell like gas or even loose fuel through fume loss!
