I just purchased a 79 trayback from aussie with no motor.
I'm thinking about a 4bt and nv4500 combo.
This cruiser will be for sale when its finished and i an wondering
what would bring the most return on dollars spent.
A chev 350 is possible but seems pretty common, or I might look for
a 2F. What would you guys do? thx.............:meh:

So you're trying to become a flipper? ;)

That question is WAY too loaded to get an answer. It's not like a kitchen where apparently granite countertops and stainless steel appliances get you a higher sale price.

Some people love the V-8, others the 4BT. Some of us would never use a non-Toyota engine. You asked what I would do: I'd put a 1HZ, H55f and turbo in it and not sell it. (wait, that's what I am doing with mine).

not trying to be a flipper, I just got this rig and decided for other reasons i want a troopy with diesel. I'm hoping to get enough money on this trayback to buy my troop not needing any work.

The easiest, quickest, least expensive, best return thing would be to put a stock gas drivetrain in it. 2f with a four speed.

to be money ahead, just sell it as is, let someone who buys it decide what they would like in it.
If done improperly you could lose money with a conversion.

Unless you have a donor rig around you would be hard pressed to make it worth your time, especially in this economy. If you had a source for a cheap but decent paint job and mechanical work then maybe (like in a 3rd world country) you would get your money back. Parts add up way faster than you might think..
