OK, I'm finally almost done with the head gasket job on my sister's 3.0 truck (for the record, I told her it would take me months to do it between other projects and that full time job thing). But in the process I've ended up with some extra bits and I can't for the life of me figure out where they go.

Anyone able to help?

A closeup of the big bracket in the picture above (it's big and cast, so I REALLY don't know how I can't figure it out). With a clear part number on it...

And the last one:

No, I don't have an FSM for this here.

And because everyone likes pictures...

I'm really hoping I can get this buttoned up in the next two work days, so that I can go back to working on my nice inline diesels. I HATE the 3.0. I told my sister to buy a 60, then buy a 1HZ. That would have been less work than this dumb job, and I probably wouldn't have as many cuts on my hands. :hillbilly:

Long skinny ones in the top pic hold the wire harness' that go down the inside of the valve covers to the injectors I think.

The big one is the lower bracket on the power steering pump. (Hook end out and up I think)

Small one is for the drivers side spark plug wires I think. The same bolt that holds it to the head also holds a ground wire to the fender...

I got your message last week, but I got it almost a day late... I figured you had it under control by then...

I did figure it out. Stupid Hayes (or Chilton, they both suck so hard) doesn't even mention the hydraulic belt tensioner, only the spring tensioner.

Thanks, I think that makes sense. The big bracket goes to the outside of the PS pump then you think? It would make sense, as there's obviously something missing on the stud on the front there, so...

Black one is the intake stiffener, it goes from one of the studs that hold the EGR pipe into the passenger end of the intake manifold down to a bolt that goes into the head. Not sure on the other, but it could be a clip for the spark plug wires somewhere....

Sweet. I was assuming it was a stiffener and probalby associated with the EGR somehow. Of course one of the studs was damaged, and I didn't help by forgetting to order a new one about five times, so the EGR isn't back on just yet (but will be tomorrow), and I just haven't been able to try any of my ideas for where it should go....

Funny thing is, I've accounted for all of the wiring clips. Either I broke off a clip and didn't realize it, or I'm blind. Probably the second.

Thanks bud, we'll see how this goes tomorrow...

OK, the intake stiffener: I can't figure it out. Anyone got a picture of how it goes in there?

Other than that, the truck is pretty much done. It has a rather large vacuum leak at idle, but off of idle it runs a lot better.

Mostly I was hoping someone could snap a picture of the intake stiffener so I can get it back on there, but here's a video of it running (you can easily hear the intake leak) that I took for my sister so she could see that she'd be able to drive her truck again someday...

The end of the stiffener with the small stud sticking out out goes to the lower stud of the EGR feeder tube (takes a 90* and goes into the EGR valve) the lower end goes to a bolt on the head between the #1 and #3 spark plugs. If that doesn't help, I'll drag myself out to take a pic...

Appreciate it guys.

I won't be back to the truck on the 29th, so hopefully I can figure out this last bracket, and figure out where that vacuum leak is...

I'm tempted to replace ALL the vac lines in the truck, is there a better diagram in the FSM than on the hood? (yes, I have not yet looked in the FSM for one)

jerrod, i went to take a pic for him but i do not think mine has that.i looked and looked, i did not see it any where.

Hehe well they do tend to get left off.... Because clearly it's hard to figure out where they go....
