Just replaced mine. This thread was extremely helpful - the advice to remove the bracket + pump together, and especially the pics of the mounting surface without the bracket on. The bracket mounting bolts all came out pretty easily with basic swivel sockets, extensions, and spanners. Mine did not have the stud in front - just another M10 bolt like the other 3.

I still struggled to get the bracket and new pump assembly back on as one unit - it's heavy, and holding it in place while trying to blind thread the bracket mounting bolts just wasn't working. In retrospect, having that stud to hang the front of the bracket on would have helped a lot.

In the end, I separated the two and mounted the bracket alone with a shorter M10 bolt and lock washer "pre-loaded" into that tricky rear bracket hole that's so close to the exhaust manifold. Then the pump went in.

Here's another pic of what the bracket mounting surface looks like. I moved a lot of ABV stuff but not the smog pump itself.

Toyota PS pump 44320-60071
Woodruff key 90280-05008 (optional but for $3 why not?)

The AP doesn't need removed. It is very difficult to remove AP w/ PS in the way.

Remove air cleaner assembly.
Remove PS pulley nut, lockwasher, flatwasher.
Loosen alternator tension, pop belt off alt & PS.
Pull/wiggle/tap PS pulley to remove off front of PS pump.
Loosen the AP tension & pop off the belt.
Remove the 2 12mm headed bolts under the PS pump, then remove the AP adjust bolt. adjuster bracket falls off.
Remove PS hoses from pump.
Remove the 14mm nut on frt of engine (circled in red above). Access is difficult; swivel socket, flex head ratchet, flex head gearwrench may be needed.
Remove 3 14mm bolts from side of engine block. Use swivel socket and move AP as necessary.
PS pump & bracket lifts out of engine bay.
Remove PS pump to bracket mounting bolts.

Installing new pump is reverse of above.

HTH

Just wanted to revive this thread and highlight this post for the absolute bang-on instructions for getting the PS pump off. @Cruiser Jimmy, can we get this one up in the FAQ for future Mud generations?

Hey guys I’m in the process of replacing my power steering pump. I’ve been trying to get access to the bolts on the bracket and this thread has been great.

I would like to add one thing to the discussion, it was probably obvious to you guys. But not to me.

If you remove the reservoir and the front two bolts of the power steering pump…you can swivel the pump upwards revealing all three of the bracket bolts.

You can even get a wrench in there without having to contort with swivels

I hope this helps someone

Reviving. Im doing a sag conversion and wondering if you can remove the bracket without removing the heat shield. Top bolt rounded off, so before i start drilling wanted to check.
