So the CD players in, ripped the back panel open to mess with the amp bypass, and was overcome by all the wires and plugs. Tried bridging the right rear speaker to what I think is the plug coming back from the deck. Didn't work so.....

Guess I'll have to ask Wayne if he's got those by-pass plugs yet.

Wayne have you got any plugs? :)

I put a new stereo in my LJ71 on the wkend, no factory amp for me but some of the speaker wires changed colour 3 times between the dash & speakers which meant a bit of work tracing which was which.

When I pull it out again to install a CB under it in a month or 2 I'll note down the wire colours & post 'em up.

Cheers
Clint

so far bad news, the number is good but toyota will not sell the adapter... there was no reason for this since this part number is good in the NA EPC.
we are trying a different aproach to the problem.
the number is not good o the Japan EPC...

we are not giving up yet.

I have installed a stereo in both of the LJ-78's i have owned. One had the factory amp, the other did not. I ended up just building a custom harness that allowed me to plug the stereo wires into the amp in the back. I ordered a kenwood adapter harness and then got 4 meters of duplex wire (x6) to stretch from the amp to the dash. I found that if you plug the stereo into the amp directly, the speakers work so this is the route I went with. Getting stuff in Japan is HARD at best. (especially since I do not speak Japanese). I found that the wiring colors at www.the12volt.com (click on vehicle wiring) were very close. It seems most of the colors for the Japanese models and the american models are the same.

getting parts from Japan is not hard at all, getting discontinued parts is.
the report back on friday was not all bad news, Toyota did not kick back the number...yet.
should know later this week if all is lost...
there are ways aroudn the harness, that is not the concern, an easy clean install is...

trust me, so are mine...
Any luck on that bypass harness? I see this is a very old post. I have an lj78 I’m trying to install a new deck. Have the front in dash all wired but sounds like i need that bypass harness, or if you know what wires I need to splice, I’d do that as well. Really hope someone here has some insight!
