Problem is going on 6 months now. Runs perfect for a few weeks, then won't start. Then I get it to the shop where it starts and runs perfectly. Done that 5x now! I take it home, drive for a few weeks, then it won't start. I can get it started with carb cleaner in the air intake sometimes and it runs great for weeks, other times it won't start until it sits overnight - then starts and runs perfect. It's maddening! The Cruiser specialist is even stumped. Sparks fine. I've replaced the fuel pump and the fuel pressure regulator, cleaned the gas tank and gas lines. Issue is the same whether full or low on gas, whether hot or cold outside. Usually happens when I'm starting it but once it happened while driving it and once while it was idling. I'm thinking the main supply relay but the mechanic says it would never start if that was bad - but can't everything have intermittent problems? Anyway, any help would be appreciated!

i recently cam across the same symptoms on a customers car.
First check to see if there is code at CEL! This particular car never had the CEL light come on but i checked it anyways!. it had a code 12 on it which read i had no N or G signal at the distributor. i checked the distributor following the FSM test. and it turned out ok.
So i went ahead and replaced the rotor and cap and also the Coil.
Check the Cold start switch, then remove it and clean any carbon on it. also check EGR connections. I also removed the EGR from the throttle body and clean the EGR tube as well. they seem to gum up with carbon as well.
After doing all this the truck seemed to run good and strong havent heard from the customer since.
try that and see if she response differently. Good Luck!

Thank you! I will pass this on to my mechanic.

adjust valves.

I have the same problem, everybody I know is stumped, mine will start and run perfectly when cold but once warm it won't start again if I turn it off, and in less I keep the throttle pto on high to keep the rpm up it dies the second I even look at the throttle it got worse over time, I replaced the fuel pressure regulator and the dampener. Temp is good, after I rebuilt the thermostat that is, and my cold start timer switch is messed up so I'm working on that. I may also go ahead and Desmond to rule that out. And I'll re check my codes but I get different ones every time, also every time it's ever been hooked up to diagnostics it reads error. I'm si tired of having a truck I can only drive if I have time for it to cool off between starts. Any help is great. I'm taking it to a couple feet supposed cruiser guys in Memphis where I live soon but thus far no one knows what the heck is up with it. Thanks guys and happy crusein.

you might wan to check the TPS. see if it is within specs. Sometimes they tend to get stuck or wont properly! Look in the FSM
to get your readings.
Also, what codes did you get when you checked it?
have you checked the coil?, the cap and rotor?

And yeah I'm checking tps too, also I'll look into the other things. What's the best was to check the coil and roter

Check the resistance of the coil. rotor just check for wear against the cap. from the inside.

I think we have different problems. Mine isn't related to temperature. It happens when it's cold and when it's warm. Happens when it's been sitting awhile and while I am driving. It only happens once every few weeks. Take it to the shop and runs perfect for the mechanic for days so he can't diagnose it. Mechanic gives it back to me, I drive it for weeks with no issue, then it happens again. It's driving me insane.

Everyone is now thinking I need a new ECM (computer head). It sparks sparks, holds pressure, etc...just randomly once in awhile doesn't open all of the injectors.

It wasn't the ECM. I replaced it, still happened. But I think I've found the problem after TLC pointed me to it. The EFI Circuit Opening Relay. I found it hacked up...of the 5 wires going into it's base, 1 goes to the battery, 1 is a ground, 1 is going into a bundle of other wires and the other 2 are cut. So I need to figure out where these wires are supposed to go. Anyone know?
