Greetings ih8mud,

I have a 94 triple locked FZJ80 that needs some body work to the passenger side front, see Figures 1, 2, and 3 for images of the damage. My plans as of now are to remove all the damaged parts, identify and buy the parts I need, and either do the work myself, find some volunteers in the Northern Virginia area to help me do the work, or take it to a reputable shop. I have a roughly US$5,000 budget and I'm ready to buy the parts now. I've done a bit of searching around and believe I've found most of what I'm looking for in terms of parts and knowledge, but there's still some gaps so I guess it's time to ask.

See the damage in Figures 1, 2, and 3:

Stuff I've Done

So far I've removed all the easy stuff like the bumper, grill, right fender, headlight, corner light, et cetera, but I have not attempted to remove the inner fender or radiator core support yet. Now I'm trying to identify all the parts I'll need and make solid shopping list that I can post in the WTB section of the forum or use to shop at cruiserparts[.]net or anywhere else I can find the parts really. I have identified some of the parts on cruiserparts[.]net, not all, and the parts I have found seem expensive. See the bulleted list below for all the parts I think I'll need, and see Figure 5 for the stuff I found on cruiserparts[.]net.

My parts list thus far includes a:
  • Hood.
  • Bumper.
  • Bumper bracket.
  • Right inner fender well.
  • Right front fender.
  • Right headlight lamp, lens, and body.
  • Right corner light (clear)
  • Right front turn signal or marker light? Not sure exactly what this is called.
  • Radiator core suport.
  • Valance.
Here's a shopping list I threw together on CruiserParts[.]net:

Questions

Here's all the questions I have:
  • Does anybody know where I can find diagrams that detail the fender assembly and other front end components? I downloaded the 94 FSM and the 94 Chassis and Body FSM, but neither include details on the fenders or other front end body components. I still need to identify the name of a body part and I also think it'd be good to just reference these diagrams to make sure my parts list is correct and I'm not missing anything.
  • Can anybody think of anything I may have overlooked here in terms of parts?
  • How complicated is replacing a radiator core support?
  • Are there any reputable body shops that would take this work on in the DMV?
  • Is there any other work I should while I have the access-- like installing auxiliary wiring, etc?
  • Does anybody reading this have the parts I'm looking for?

I should also note that all the mechanical issues have been addressed which included replacing the front axle, the radiator, and any other mechanical components it needed. Additionally, two specialists have assessed the frame/ structural components are not compromised. So just cosmetic at this point.

1) If you want/need NEW parts, look at www.partsouq.com They also have excellent diagrams.

2) Used parts go to @slow95z and/or @arcteryx

3) Be VERY wary of cruiserparts, as they have a reputation for a reason.

The piece you are trying to name above bumper and below grill is the valance. Id try to source one local. I received two damaged in shipping and vendor refused to send a third. I’d reach out in the va, NC,pa,dc clubhouses as well to tap the hidden hoarders stashes.

X2 on caution on cruiserparts

Have you searched car-parts.com for local yards. Rare but not impossible. There was a black 96 near me recently at a LKQ I’ve pilfered.

@jfz80 Cheers man, updating my list above to reflect the correct name of that part-- also good insight on the risks of shipping it. Good ideas for sourcing the parts too, I'll search for the yards around here and see what I can find.

I know there's a club here in VA that has a presence on this forum because I ran into one of the members at Starbucks one day.. really cool fella.. I don't remember what he said his ih8mud handle was though and I lost his number. Matt, if you're reading this, whatupp bro!!

Plenty of good used fenders, hoods, etc. out there. Check car-part.com for nationwide salvage yard availability.
How complicated is replacing a radiator core support?
Not complicated but it sucks. I had to replace the core support on my 100 after hitting an elk. There are like 30 spot welds that had to be drilled out, then had to weld the new support in. I assume it’s similar on 80 series. Are you sure the core support even needs to be replaced? It looks OK from your photos, but the fender apron that the fender attaches to is bent. That will need to be pulled back straight.

@JunkCrzr89 Good question-- I'm not sure if the core support needs to be replaced. I'll take a closer look tomorrow and upload some unobstructed pics now that the fender and other stuff is off. It sounds like at least a couple of days of work to replace it, so, It would be nice if I don't need to. Thanks for the info man.

Updating this thread with some close up shots of the radiator core support. It's certainly damaged, as can be seen in Figure 2, but I would like some opinions on whether or not it can be salvaged.

It's a bolt on, save youself some troubles and find yourself a good use one.
Dbl.down on what BILT4ME said about getting used parts.
I have not used arcteryx but I have purchased parts from Slow95z and it was always a good experience, Chris probably has everything you need.

Hey guys, here's the diagrams I pulled from PartSouq; I've included the diagram codes and corresponding part names for the parts I need under each figure. Sharing here incase other people with similar issues as mine could use this thread as guidance in the future.

I would spend the time and search out good used parts in the factory green that way you just have to blend the exterior/ fix the clear coat.. there were lots of green ones built(most popular color) You may even get lucky and not have to do any paint work. I would replace the rad support, you could straighten it but it would take too much time, a lot of stuff aligns off of it.. good luck,

That's a good point @RAYJON, I'm looking for the parts in factory green now, and I absolutely will change the rad support for the same reasons you and Broski mention.

slow95z does have all the parts I need, just not in the color I want at this point. Seems like a solid guy though so I've offered to at least purchase all three right side light fixtures from him.

I'll keep this thread updated with any progress I make. Thanks for the help everybody!

Might be a good time to do a fender delete, you could sell your other 3 fenders to offset some of the parts cost.

Although it would be nice to find the parts in the right color I wold not wait for that. Most Likely the clear coat well be bad at best.
Get the parts you need, then order paint from Autotouchup.com (you can get it in a rattle can ) then paint your parts before you put them on and it well look factory.
I use there paint all the time the color match is spot on.
PS my Reg is the same color as yours ;) :p

The Depo headlights have been mostly back in stock from a few ebay vendors recently. I totally understand if you want to keep everything completely stock, but you could get a set of two Depo headlights for just a little more than half the price of the a single OEM light.

I have an almost identical repair planned for my 2003 100 series and am wondering if your inner fender well was welded in or glued. I need to repair or replace this part too (mine is listed as "Apron Reinforced") and didn't;t know if it requires welding or is joined with seam adhesive. Anyone here know?

I don’t know about the 100s but the 80s the inner fender is a bolt in
