I'm sorry to start another battery thread. I have done a search and read through a lot of posts but am still not sure what I should/can do. I'm wanting to get the battery with the most reserve capacity that will fit in the factory location with very little to no modification. I'm running a refrigerator now but I don't want to do a dual battery setup. I've seen a lot of talk about a group 31 battery. Do I need to get a different tray to be able to put one of those in? Thanks for any suggestions.

IMO, the best option these days is the Batteries Plus X2 Power 27F. It's a 92 AH battery that fits in the stock tray. The group 31 batteries are going to get you at most 3-10 additional AH and you're going to have to buy a new tray from Slee. I don't personally think it's worth it. You could take that $100 and put it towards a Microstart jump pack and have a much more "robust" battery solution, IMO.

This is spot on. IMHO, I would do this or dive in and go with a dual setup. Two smaller batteries properly set up will always be better than one big honking battery.

I had not run across that thread in my search. That x2 battery seems like the way to go. But that's spendy. Ugh. :(. Thanks for the help guys.

So can you all explain to me why the x2 is better than a 27f battery from Toyota ? $120 and an 84 month warranty I believe.

The X2 Power has deep cycle characteristics and OEM is only a starting battery. The OP needed to run a fridge and needed the deep cycle aspect. If you only need a good starting battery, OEM is a great choice.

... and compared to an Optima Yellowtop, the X2 has more AH?

Just curious why the wind is blowing away from Optima as I've always had good experience at a decent price.

The x2 (27f):
full replacement warranty for 60 months
930 CCA
195 min reserve

The Truestart (27f):
full replacement for 24 months (prorated for 84 months)
710 CCA
165min reserve
(Edited to correct warranty term for X2 from 48 mo [marine] to 60 mo [standard])

Primarily due to poor quality/manufacturing. Many on the board have reported premature failure of the Optimas.

The Optima Yellowtop is a good battery. But in a 27F, the X2 Power has about 50% more AH.

Odd that BatteriesPlus offers a 60 month and NorthStar offers 36 month...same battery right?

That is my understanding. I'd expect that if you have 2 identical batteries, one with a 36 month replacement warranty and one with a 60 month warranty, that there would be a price increase on the 60 month battery to cover warranty costs, but I see the Northstar (36m) listed at $339.99 and the X2 (60m) listed at $304.99. :meh:
