Wanted Need a Full Floating Rear Axle

I noticed this morning that my fj40 is leaking gear oil after further inspection, I also noticed the flange is loose. I need to get it fixed fast. At this point I'm not sure if the gearing is messed or just needs some TLC. Instead or rebuilding the axle I wanted to invest in a Full Floating Rear Axle instead. Anyone have one for sale. Sor sells them but not complete and I have not called them yet.

I picked mine up from SOR. If you do go that route, what year full floater are you aiming for? There's a difference between the earlier ones and the later ones. I have one with the integrated parking brake. You'll need to rebuild the brakes. Also, you might want to pick up the special adapter that allows for you to set the preload to the hub bearings. It's not that bad to set it up. If you've re-done your knuckles, then you're more then capable.

Thanks, It will be going on an 82 and mine has the parking brake intergrated to the axle unlike the 79. I wanted to 4.11's possible. But that means I will have to do the fronts if I go that route.

Hmmm... that would suck if you just redid your front axle. Did you think about just going with 3.73's in the rear until you have time to change to 4.11's? The nice thing about a full floater is that it's easy to swap in a 3rd member. All you have to do is pull the axle shafts, disconnect the drive shaft from the diff, and remove the differential. You don't even have to pull off the wheels or jack up your truck. So, you could rebuild your full floater upfront and not have to mess with the hubs at all when you change out at a later time. Also, if your brakes are good in your semi floater... you should be able to just swap over your backing plates. Since most of the later full floaters didn't have the parking brake integrated. You may have to copy the brackets from your Semi Floater and weld them in place on your Full Floater.

I've also had my eye on a full floating rear end. I've looked at SOR and MAF. Not called either but there ia a big difference in price. I was planninf on read disc. I have already purchased the kit from MAF. I wounder what it would take to do a conversion to the Full Floater? Any Ideas.

Full floating axle

I have one on a 94 FZJ80 full floater with disc brakes complete. Dont know if this work for you. Its stock with apx 220000 miles.

there was a guy on her a couple of days ago who got sold a supposed 60 rear full floater but ended up being from a 45 . I think he was trying to get rid of it . try the 60 section. If it was my money Id get some rear disks and poly axles and stick with the semifloat. stonger imop.full floaters require alot more maintenance if you use (abuse) them.
