Hey Mud, looking to upgrade from my 03 lx470 w/ 130k to a 13 or newer 200 series. Only criteria are white, and within driving distance of SoCal. I have been following classifieds for a while but am having trouble determining my target price.

Currently looking at the following:

Used Lexus LX 570 For Sale - CarGurus
https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/inven...efined&filtersModified=true#listing=182346887
Also found a 13 lx570 with 98k for $42,900. Is it reasonable to expect to get out the door under $40k?

Any advice is appreciated.

I was in the 200 market for quite a while here in San Diego. Those prices seem high for a LX on somewhat on par for LCs. The problem being your location.

SoCal is a tough market and that many don't pop up for sale as you're probably well aware. Def more LXs than LCs.

I'd look in Phoenix/Tucson/Albuquerque to Fly and Buy. Its not that far of a drive.

Thanks for the advice...

Any common issues with vehicles from Utah? Prices seem to be a little cheaper there as well, and it is a potential fly and buy location.

Also, will appreciate any thoughts on these - especially the LX570 in UT.

The issue you need to watch out for in Utah is rust. We use salt on our roads in the winter. If people take care of their vehicles its no big deal but some get neglected(yes, even expensive LC's). A lot of the used LC's here lately have come from dealers that have bought them out of state at auctions and brought them in to Utah cause they are popular here. I haven't followed the LX market as much as the LC but they are pretty similar in my experience. If you see one around Salt Lake and need someone to check one out let me know. I bought my 2010 LC in Montana and would've loved someone to go check it out for me before I flew up there. Good Luck.

@Jefferson100LX I, like many others here, was in the market for a long time. So I have a little pricing knowledge. I agree with what other are saying about demand in SoCal relative to used LC supply but you can say that about anywhere really. The short of it is that LC's are not popular selling vehicles here. Their scarcity on the used market has a direct correlation to the premium $ they command in the market. Many people keep them for a long time and drive them as intended.
On the mileage to price table, its all relative to what you're willing to spend and how many miles you're willing to accept. Personally, I found that my sweet spot for a 2013 (refresh) was $40-45k at about 80k in miles. I am in Texas and searched for a southern truck exclusively. I found that the closer you got to 100k miles, the $~40k price was average. If you want 60k or fewer miles, prepare to spend $50k+.
Every once in a while, you have a cheaper outlier on the price to mileage graph. Its not by much, maybe $1-2k. There are MANY expensive outliers on that graph, so don't be discouraged.
As @tplane2 mentioned, take a cheap southwest flight and drive back. You'll be able to learn more about your LC that way. I bought mine private party and shortly after, drove it several hundred miles around Texas. That was the best way I could think of to learn about your new ride.

Lastly, and I cannot stress this enough, consider private party. We know our cruisers, we are enthusiasts and appreciate what we have. Many dealers know they have something with some scarcity and ask a lot of $ for it. But, as soon as you ask real questions about its history, maintenance or quirks, you're met with a blank stare by the dealer sales rep. Also, look into dealer auction sales data. Many members here have access to it and will screenshot recent prices at auction based on mileage, year, and condition.

Again, just my $.02

Thanks again, great advice! I will be on the lookout for a private party seller that can provide the history, and has treated the LC / LX right. In the meantime, I am still scouring the SoCal market and found this '13 LC within driving distance:

Used 2013 Toyota Land Cruiser For Sale | Buellton CA

The sales rep said it is a 1-owner, and has been in Santa Barbara its entire life, and is in excellent condition. With my primary concerns as rust / corrosion I asked for engine compartment and underside pics.

The underside doesn't show much - probably because he didn't want to get on the ground, but I see some potential rust / corrosion on the rear right axle. Anything to be concerned about, or anything else I am missing?

Also what do you think is a fair offer - priced at $50,444? I would love to get it for $45,000 or less.

Thanks again.

White Exteriors demand a premium IMO.
The drivers seat shows a little wear for 40k miles, but if has lived in CA with no rust and has no previous damage, I’d say 48 is a solid number for the location.

Thanks, that's what I am thinking. I spoke to the sales rep, and he said the price was non-negotiable since it is "only a few thousand above wholesale" - lol! I told him that I am interested but not at that price.

Continuing to monitor car gurus, autotrader, craigslist, ebay... anywhere else I should be looking?

Not to be harsh, but why do you think a dealer would be willing to drop the price by over $5k? I think the key to being successful in the search is to be reasonable. Not many car dealers have that kind of margin, and their price is pretty close to if not below market especially for a low mile, one owner CA truck. You may be able to get a couple hundred off, but there aren't many dealers out there that will take you seriously if you offer ~$5.5k under their asking price.

Fair enough. I didn't offer $45k, that's just what I would like to spend. I realize it will be hard to find a good '13 for that price, but I am willing to wait. The search continues...

I see what your saying but when it comes to the car buying game I think an offer of 5k less is not out of line. Ive bought and sold tons of cars over the years and whenever I went to trade one in, the dealer would come back with a stupid low offer, like I was some sort of idiot. I wouldn’t be afraid to insult a car dealer. They do it to us all the time.

Portland is a good market to buy from

Also - Vancouver right across the river and Seattle

If you go east you get vehicles that are torn up

You posted on my thread in amidship about
possibly hauling this - but you could also fly
up & drive it home if you have time.

I am in Tucson right now - I have to go to Salinas, CA
to drop off - then possibly up to Bandon, OR to pick
up a 6 pack Moparts Muscle Car.

Thanks, I think I will hold off a bit to see if something closer pops up. 17 hours of driving, even in a 200, doesn't sound like fun right now. If I end up getting enough free time to turn it into a vacation, I might reconsider.

On another note, does anyone have thoughts on these underside pics - Not sure exactly what I should be looking for as far as rust, or unusual corrosion, but it looks pretty good to me...

Found this one on OC Craigslist: Toyota Land Cruiser
https://orangecounty.craigslist.org/cto/d/toyota-land-cruiser/6449319626.html
'13 LC w/ 43k, asking $51,500.

Looks beautiful and has a lot of extras. I get that I will pay more based on location since this is CA, and not AZ, but does that seem worth pursuing? After speaking with the owner, he will not budge on the price.

I do like the idea of purchasing from a private party rather than a dealer.

Thanks again for the advice.
