Yep - those are the Wedco cans with the :censor: CARB compliant spout.

I spill more gas out of my CARB compliant gas spouts on my home cans than I ever have out of my non-carb spouts. :bang:

I've got two like what is listed on amazon. The spout sucks but it does work and I've not spilled much gas when filling my generator.

But...the process in which you have to use the spout is crap.... Here is my method...pick up can and hold in a bear hug with one arm while operating the spout with the other arm. Make sure spout is tight. To the extent I know there are about the only legal type 5 gal cans you can buy new?

The spout is a real pain in the @$$ to operate. It has a part that you basically have to press down on for fuel flow and its takes a pretty aggressive grip to do so....all the while you are holding the full 5 gallon can.

I can say they are well built, I've not had any problems with the two I have, but they are not much over a year or so old.

NATO cans do not spill. I would not settle for less even though they are hard to find.

I don' t know what a true nato can is .... but the cans we had in the army back when I was in...89-91 had a screw on metal lid with rubber seal and then a flexable spout that kind of locked in the can. The flexible spouts we had leaked and so did the lids...but the things were not the best maintained items and you ended up with the luck of the draw as far as if anyone ever replaced the gasket/seals.... I assume you are talking about these..

My reference to spilling gas was more of an operational thing...not that the spout leaks. (post 4 above)

$75 shipped +$15 for a spout. These are "water cans".

There are pre-CARB brand spanking new cans currently available on the market without "water only" stamps but these are either illegal under Fed law or at least in a gray area. I use a Super Siphon on my pre-CARB cans so the spout issue isn't a big deal to me. If you use spouts then it could be a big issue. Used pre-CARB cans are getting harder and harder to find. I had several never used Scepter cans that sold for $100 without any questions asked. I hated selling them for that high of a price but with how fast they sold I could have sold them for much more. I actually wish I would have kept them for my own use.

Due to the legal issues I haven't ever carried the "gray area" cans. I have heard good things about the Deutsche Optik cans but I don't have any personal experience with them (other than checking out a few a Jeeper had) nor do I have any link to the company. I'd imagine there will be some crappy copies coming soon from over seas so be careful of those. Everything I've seen currently on the market that doesn't have the CARB compliant features were pretty nice cans. I'm pretty sure I've seen the ones Fast Eddy linked above but from a different seller and if they were the same cans then I an say they seemed nice.

Super Siphon is the way to go.

I have four of the Deutsche Optik jerry cans and have been pleased with them. I use the SS with them.

I have two Scepter jerry cans on one nozzle. For some reason the nozzle leaks like a SOB when used on one of them so I leave it at home most of the time and take the SS. With the SS you can use any can to put gas or diesel into anyone's vehicle.

The idiots that mandated the "CARB" spout, I would wager never came close to actually having to transfere fuel. I have yet been able to use one of those spouts witout spilling gas all over the place. All of mine are now residing at the county dump. My prefered method is using one of the Blitz tranmission funnels, the big black one, and just pouring right out of the can. I've had three of the old NATO cans for several years and none has ever leaked. By the way Harbor Freight has the new Wedco cans for about $30.00. Yes they come with the funky spout.

I have three NATO can that have cracks in them. They seem to get small cracks on the face from expansion and contraction.

The sportsmans guide tanks look sketchy to me. Notice the seam sits proud of the surrounding metal. this could put a concentrated load on the area w/ flex and crack. Other more original ones have a recess for the weld seam, thus protecting from excessive concentrated loads.

Note that the above detail has been picked up here on Mud by others...
