It's a choke cable hole my friend. As you have EFI you need a plug to fill the hole that vexes you, 55477-10010-11. By the way the official description of said part number is "COVER, CHOKE KNOB HOLE".:)

CD, thank you for confirming my suspicion. I had a choke on my 1961 Peugeot 403 with a 123 cubic inch engine. Driving in California use of the choke was essential when the engine was cold. Kinda wish I had one on El Wahsh just so I could teach my sons. Sigh.... I've really got to get the technical manuals for this truck! Again, thank you.

Might as well teach them how to run a steam engine. :D

Well I had mentioned this to my friend who runs a LC 80 and 76 salvage yard in Sharjah and forgotten about it. Last weekend he hands me this:
full

So, there you have it. I think I will install it in the mystery hole. Now I just have to think of some function for it to provide. Maybe manual fuel valve cutoff? Ejector seat (suggested by my son)? Self destruct? What's nice about this is that it is variable and lockable in place. Can't think how to use that. Ideas?
