As some of you may have already seen I posted up a question a little while back regarding a audio question I had. Well after getting harrased regarding asking audio questions and not completely introducing myself I must further include a little additional information regarding the truck and it's history....oh and I figured out the audio question I had, as much as I didn't want to I went aftermarket setup...still pondering rear speaker ideas though.

Now on to the truck...to start with it is a 1992 Ext. Cab 4WD P/U. Truck started as a V6 5 speed, but soon took transformation and dismantled into a diesel conversion. I first off want to say that this was a project I helped FJ45KC with, I was mainly there to assist in the removal of existing drivetrain and assist in the installation of the new diesel drivetrain, as well as give a few second opinions here and there, but as a favor of my labor I requested if the truck where ever sold that I be first in line. Total project took about 9 months. Drivetrain is that of a 1KZ-TE 4 cyclinder Turbo Diesel found in many of the current overseas diesels. Wiring harness was sent off for repair, and with little modification was sent back with a simple plug and play installation for the most part, minus extending a few wires to match engine plugs. Being my first diesel I will have to say it is a totally different driving style. Getting use to the torque of the 1KZ-TE has been something that is going to take time. I haven't really been through a full tank (two weeks now) of fuel yet so I don't have the numbers regarding it's efficiency yet, I have heard of numbers between 28-34 but will confirm that as time goes buy.

I will try and do a little more in depth write-up when I get some of the information together for it, for now enjoy.

Wow, very nice truck!!

Whats your audio question? I'm pretty familiar with that type of stuff. Feel free to private message me if you want.

I have been told however that the 1KZ-TE is no longer available for importing. Don't have any further details on this however at this time. However I do agree that the diesel bug is catching on, esp. the old 300 and 300D mercedes. Local craigslist finds on those last merely a few hours before they are sold.

Few additions

It's been a little while since I have been back on the truck forum but thought I would post up a few additions to the pickup. Gearing was a bit high for the setup so I switch tires sizes to compensate the highway speeds a bit and still maintain a very low off road ratio. Also added the softopper which i was a little unsure of at first but love it.

Tires are 255/85/16 Cooper Discoverer ST, they are nice looking tires with somewhat of an aggresive tread, a little loud but when you are used to 35" MTZ's then whats the difference. Going to the 255's from 265's accomplished exactly what I was looking for in lowering Rpm's at hwy speeds.

How did I miss this one?!?!?!

That is a beautiful conversion. Beautiful indeed.

Do you have pics of the swap process? Did you modify the engine harness, or the dash harness to fit the RHD 1KZ-TE harness?

Dan

The harnesses were reworked to match the left hand drive dash and right hand drive engine controls. Even after being reworked we still needed to extend a few of the wires to match the 1KZ-TE plugs
