Here are the pics of my new CB
the first one is of the radio in the ashtray slot, I used the help of a couple of kitchen items to make it fit there

The second one is of the fuse panel and the power tap :D

Now I just need to go on a run with other cb owners so I can test mine :flipoff2:

Also not sure how good of a ground plane you are going to get with the antenna mounted to the plastic bumper corner. I am assuming you have grounded through the metal bracket under the bumper corner.

The instructions show to wire it to the fuse box. I went to a splice I already had in the cig lighter and I have no interference.

Ulyses,
Does yours go back to channel 1 when you turn on and off your cruiser? Mine does and if yours doesn't then I will re-wire mine to the fuse panel.

You're lucky you have no interference. Cause that is the worst way (easiest way) to wire a CB up. My buddy has his like that and has had problems the whole time. Wasn't yours acting weird at Death Valley?

Anyhoo.. as far as the channel 1 memory.. you need a constant hot for that. Reason why you aren't having that happen is cause your cig lighter loses power when you turn the truck off.

That was a used CB off of eBay that apparently had a blown speaker because the new one worked perfect during the Turkey Run.

Yeah I figured it was because I lost total power when off so I am hoping that going to the fuse box will solve that problem.

What like a spatula and a bread knife!:D

Looks good Ulyses! I still need to install mine after losing motivation yesterday while changing my oil and rear diff lube.

Looks good, but on all CB radios and HAM radios its best to wire them straight to the battery. Otherwise you will get engine noise and other interference.

How do handle fusing then, in-line fuse holder? I'll be adding a CB and a ham soon, and this is good to know.

I borrowed a friend's hand-held CB (the kind that plugs into the cig lighter) and heard all kinds of noise through it (mostly the center diff lock)

No mine stays in whatever channel i had it when I turned it off.

The only noise I noticed came from the seat's motor, but I have not noticed anything from the engine.

Ground? yeah I think I completely forgot about it, 'cause the antenna is not grounded at all. is that bad? the antenna mount was this plastic thingy but I took it apart and decided to mount just the antenna (no plastic mount) on the bumper

Yeah like Mo said, it's important that you have your antenna properly grounded for it to work as best possible. On our rigs, absolute best SWR you would want your antenna mounted on your roof in the center of the vehicle with a roof mount. We have a Wilson 1000 roof mount on our 80, but have a roof rack.. so we used a jumper to the outside of the rack. We also grounded our roof rack with a small grounding strap.

At a bare minimum you should run a ground wire to the mount itself to provide a ground. It might not work at all without a ground. Like Dave said the roof center is the optimal but you can easily do car to car on the trail with less than that. It becomes much more crucial when you are mounting a 2M antenna.

maybe tie it off near the roof or something so it doesn't whip by-standers on the trail... also keep from hitting the body
nice slick install on the ash tray!
