I am so excited for him to experience this life experience. The tournament of 102 teams starts Sunday but he will be taking part in the King of Swat competition as part of the skills competition on Saturday. Then it's three straight days of baseball before they weed it down to the top teams that will compete over the next two days until there is one team left standing.
My nephew plays for the Indian Well Valley Youth Baseball All Stars where his Bronco division recently came in Second at the Chino Hills Memorial Day Tourny. But this week he is a guest of the Bakersfield Xtreme who invited and paid his way to play for them. He has faced Bakersfield for a few years now and since being asked to go to this tourny has played for them three times this year.
The facility has a really great site CooperstownDreamsPark.com and more importantly web cams for each field so I will be able to watch his games via the web. But with an 8:30 game on Monday I will be up at the butt crack of dawn in front of my computer.

Anyway I am just a proud uncle and just wanted to share as all of us can relate to Little League.

Congratulations Mark!

From everything you have told me about your nephew he has the potential to go a long way in baseball.

Yeah we will be able to see where his skills land him after this tourny since he will be playing kids from GA, OH, FL, TX, & AL just in the first three days.
It's been a good year for him just last month he threw a perfect game striking out all but one batter in a 7 inning game during his regular league play.

Well here is an update:
He didn't end up doing the Homerun Derby they had one of their regular kids do it.

But after the first two games today they won 12-0 and 14-1. My nephew had 2 homers in the first game for 4 RBI's and 3 RBI's in the second game with 3 0f 3 hitting. He hasn't pitched yet to save him since they can usually only pitch a certain amount of innings or games, the rules are different from tourny to tourny.

Very cool Mark. That truly is a once in a lifetime experience as you mentioned and I hope it is all he hopes for.

Well after 4 games the Bakersfield Xtreme are currently the # 1 team! WEEK #1 RESULTS FOR THE SUMMER OF 2009
They have 10 runed all three teams and have only given up 2 runs and put up 40 runs.
My Nephew had a Grand Slam and a 2 run homer in the third game this morning.

While you know I'm kidding around, this world has become to PC, where any overacheiver in just about anything these days is accused of cheating or performance enhancing.

I truely hope your nephew has a blast. It's memory forever.

Well tomorrow gets a little tougher, they play the 27th team in the afternoon and then the 14th team later that night. I was fortunate to be able to watch the game online this morning and then the schedule changed and I was able to watch this afternoons game. So although he is thousands of miles away I have seen 3 out of 4 games. These here Internets are GR8.

They were in 1st after 5 games but they lost their 6th game to a tough team 9-6. They were down 6-0 due to a grand slam and tried to fight back but didn't have enough time. That bumped them back to 15th place one slot out of the top 14. So instead of waiting for the lower teams to duke it out today and playing one tonight like the top 14 they have to play at 5:30 EST and if they win that play again at 8:30 EST.

The first game today for them should be over soon and I am waiting to here. They are playing the 50th place team who was 3-3 and won this morning to play Bakersfield. Unfortunately only 10 of the fields have web cams on them and they are on field 15 so I can't watch it.

Here the link to THE BRACKET They are team 15 in the top right corner.

WOW, just finished watching this mornings game and they pulled it off 10-8. But that's not before a TOUGH game last night that they won by 1 with my Nephew scoring from first on a hit to the fence. They have a little time to rest before taking on the 7th place East Cobb Braves from GA. It's down to the FINAL 8 Teams!

Well that's all she wrote, the Xtreme made it to the top 8 and were knocked out by the #7 East Cobbb Braves. They were 10 runed at the end of the 4th 18-2. They just couldn't get it done pitching and my Nephew couldn't go anymore after last nights 5 innings and closing out this mornings game to win it.
