The first tube (closest to the frame) is right under the pinch seam on the bottom of the cab. Then the "hoop" part is bent up a little but set so the doors just cleared, maybe by about 1/2". Yes, they are also side steps, I had grip tape on the top of them just for this. With 4 legs, they are crazy strong, no way are they bending up no matter how hard you land on them. They stuck out just far enough that no worries about parking at the grocery store, no door dings possible (people learned that the hard way).
