I noticed in that post about the 1uz Jimny build that gearing wasn't the greatest. I will most likely stick with 33's on the stock geared axles. I am hoping the crawl ratio isn't too fast. Might have to look at a R+P swap down the road...
Interestingly, the SC400 A340E ratios are closer to the Prado; more sporty than the LS400 I guess:
1 - 2.804
2 - 1.531
3 - 1.000
4 - 0.705
R - 2.393
Anyhow, I don't think the 2.531 vs 2.804 will make much noticeable difference wheeling. Because it's auto, the TC is slipping and making the gearing seem lower than it is anyhow. In my experience wheeling, I've found 4-LO to be too low for a lot of what I do. And when I do need 4-LO, it is plenty lo.
I guess if you are concerned, you could find a A340E transmission out of an SC400. I do see those cars getting parted out all the time. This would give you all the same ratios as the Prado A343F, except overdrive (which would suit the V8 better anyhow).
Small update. Didn't get as far as I would have liked too, weather wasn't cooperative with me. Anyways, I have everything unhooked and drained. I am going to pull the whole engine, trans and transfer case out as one unit... should be interesting but I have a tractor and a floor jack... I'm sure I can make something work haha.
Couple pictures I snapped... not really of anything just of all the dirty crap coming out.
Today was a more successful day, finally got a break in the weather for a few hours. I worked from 12-3pm (Trying to keep track of actual wrench time this swap takes) and can happily say the engine, trans and transfer case are out!
So first impressions after eyeballing the 2 transmissions it would seem the 1uz trans wont work as well as originally expected. The shift linkages are on opposite sides and there is no space on the 1uz trans to allow for the transfer case shift linkage.
Prado trans showing t case pivot arm...
Prado trans showing shift linkage (don't mind the bent shifter arm..)
1uz trans showing the shift linkage (opposite side of prado) and no space to mount the T Case linkage pivot arm
1uz tag on top of the trans
Prado tag on trans
I'm going to power wash the prado trans soon and get a better look at things.
Got out in the Shop again today, I pulled the Lexus trans off the 1uz and pulled both bell housings
The housing match up perfectly. You can see the main difference is the bump for the starter. The 1uz is that the top since the 1uz starter is under the intake manifold. The 2lte is on the side.
1uz is top
Next up is to stick these things together...
And figure out how to make it shift... For now I am looking at Spitronics for ECU and TCU.
