Howdy, I am just starting out on a restoration project on what is supposed to be a '75 FJ55, and apologies in advance for lots of stupid questions of the coming months. Here comes the first one. We are doing a complete frame off restoration and my body shop was wondering whether we are better off just trying to replace two of the doors - which not surprisingly have more than a bit of rust - rather than patching them. We were wondering whether the doors are the same between '68 through '80 (if so, that may make it a bit easier to find a door :-)). Also, does anyone know how to tell for sure what the year of the vehicle is? The registration says its a '75 but not sure if that is accurate. THANKS!

And the older doors have the wing windows. 68 to 71, at least. The rubber gasket for those vent windows is expense and really doesn't fit too well, so getting a later year door, would save some coins.

I do have a late front door (non wing) that I would be will to sell as well.

I believe 68-74.5ish were the same with wing window.

74.5-78 same shape door without the wing.

79+ went to a rounded front door opening.

I have a 75 as well to find the take a look at the front of the frame above the shackle on the passengers side. the frame number should be there. i attached a picture of mine.

then cross reference it with this link. http://www.tlcparts.com/faq.html

I think the wing window went away before '74. My Jan '74 does not have wing window.

Which doors are you having to replace? Fronts or rears? Or 1 of each?

I'm needing a front driver door. I'm thinking the passenger rear door I have will be perfect for the rear door I need to replace as well.
