it took me until last week and being in Afghanistan to get straight and be able to get me another...

take ur time with it and remember priorities, as long as u have a dd just keep it around and play with it when u can...

take care man...

Alright guys this is the big photo/vid post I've been saving up for...

We are 2 days away from leaving on our 70 day, 5,000 mile expedition, and have been working like crazy to pull everything together in time.

Just a brief summary before the photos-

Started late last week with a bang- 60 hours of garage time with 8 hours of sleep.

Ashleigh and I managed to:

Get up at 6, and cover the unsealed hardtop (was missing the visor cap) with duct tape > get coffee > run out of gas > get gas > drive to SOR > drive to santa clarita > take off the hard top > fix broken hardtop visor, paint, rivet back to top, and reinstall the hartop > pull out "offroad seats" > create new bracket design for power BMW seats > install bracket and promptly change bracket design 2 more times> remove SOR rubber carpet kit> dynamat from the firewall down to the middle of the tub > carpet pad over > cut and apply carpet over entire front area > install seats > install interior lights > install power inverter > tighten rear diff > finish carpeting rear cargo boxes > drive to santa monica for brief sleep in back of audi (since I had allready started my sublet) > drive to lake arrowhead to pick up and mount the Diamond Rax safari rack and Cascadia Vehicle Tents RTT > drive to san deigo > drop off cruiser with metal shop for rear tire carrier..........

So today we are cruiserless, as we dropped cliff last night at the metal shop- today we will be rounding up the remaining supplies, ordering an onboard shower, and weighing out the possibility of a second battery for running inverted power after dark w/o draining the main battery.

I will post up again with a more updated route but at this point our first leg will be up and along PCH towards Oregon. If we can get ourselfs a sat phone, we will take the backcountry route through oregon but those details are still very much in the works....

enjoy

So what is the update on the suspension and ride quality after proper shock valving. Nice build by the way. Your thread kicks me in the ass to get my 78 done.

Proper valving goes on tomorrow, so I'll keep you posted, but the new springs and added weight made a night and day difference.

Just got back from the shop where they built our tire carrier- very pleased with the result. Will be spraying it tomorrow...

In theory, we pack, finish up some last minute details (i.e. find spare tire, buy cooler, pack entire cruiser, take off old shocks and install new, paint carrier and re install, correct belt alignment, re key locks, put on door panels, seal hardtop air leak, fuel and go.) :bounce:

Thanks Aaron!

Looking good......I like the step in the receiver hitch, too.....looks like you could flip it upside down if you needed to get up a tad higher as well.

Who did the tire/cooler carrier for you? Looks nice.....

Greg, it was built by SFI Designs in San Diego...really nice guy and was able to throw it together in an afternoon for us!

Expect some live updates later this afternoon as we get closer to actually leaving, as well as a link to our trip blog.

live update:

several (hopefully no more than 3) more hours of packing to do.... truck is still empty and garage is still full of all our belongings.... installed door lock, sealed air leaks, put back on door panels.

shock update-

the new bilsteins are great! 255/70 all the way around with the 5125 series. softened up the ride just the right amount without too much added body roll.

if am still awake when we finish I'll post up some more photos

thats the ONLY way.

oh and by the way.. i tried making a road trip once without wipers.. it didn't go so well when it started to downpour.. noticed you didn't have wipers on a couple of pics went make sure you get those hooked up!

Wipers

AntFJ...we are on teh same page. The lack of wipers was the first thing I noticed.

I, on the other hand, have wipers...that don't work. :crybaby:

If u get close to MN I got a great place on the lake to camp. And it would be fun to hang out.
