I had to tap out the front vac port on my intake to 1/8 NPT. I have a broken gas filter and I noticed the wire mesh in the middle which is why it is called a filter i suppose. Is it reasonable to build a new vac fitting out of brass plumbing parts? I was thinking about putting some stainless steel scrubby inside one of the fittings. How crucial is this filter aspect? I have a pic up here:

Thanks guys.

Is the 1/8 NPT thread compatible with 1/8 BSPT? I cut NPT into my Manifold because it was stripped and I couldnt find a BSPT tappet.

I noticed that the pitch of 1/2 BSP is identical to 1/2 NPT although the profile is slightly different. I imagine this profile difference is a bigger issue with a smaller fitting even if the pitch is the same. There was a conversion part mentioned somewhere in the middle of this thread.

Jim,

I want to thank you specifically for all the time you have put into this desmog issue. You are very patient. I have two distributors one stock, one DUI that a friend gave me without a clamp. I plan to get the truck running, swap the distributor and send the stock one to you for a recurve. What is your turnaround these days? Do you accept Paypal?

Thanks again.

Pretty sure both of my VCV's are shot. Neither holds any vacuum at port S. Is it true that they are supposed to hold threshold vacuum @ 70 mmHg there when disconnected on the workbench?

Clearly these are both super important. I gather the passenger side prevents distribuplosion and the driver side is EVAP...I think.
I would like to find a new replacement part. Used at sor is $66?!? and cruiserparts.net is $15 where "aftermarket options may also be available"

Anyone know of other sources or options for scavenging and retrofitting from other makes/models? 15 bucks isn't bad but I would prefer a new part that will last....

WHY, is this so damn confusing? I am more and more frustrated every time I read this. I cannot wrap my head around this somebody come smack the s*** out of me maybe it will help aaaaaahhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My brain is on the verge of a very large explosion.

It's not that complicated. You're only doing three things...

1. Removing parts you don't need any more.
2. Plugging the holes they leave behind (or 'need for something to tension a belt' in the case of the smog pump)
3. Routing vacuum lines to the stuff you kept.

If you take your time, and spend the money to get the correct plugs rather than cobbling things together, it's not bad at all.

Rad the from of the emissions manual where there is a list of all the parts. Learn what the letters like HAC or HIC or BVSV or VTV or VCV mean. This helps like all these things together to make alittle more sense.

I've been through it more than that I carry jimcs desmog diagram in my pocket daily and read a little of the thread daily as well I've been doing this for a few months now and (as long as I've owned the ole lady I just want to drive her im not a book smart guy I reckon I need real life in person help I just don't understand I don't know what to do I dont want to loose help but I fear its happening slowly but its happening none the less

Keep at it. One day it will all of a sudden hit you. You will smile and have a Duh moment....then you'll be able to complete it.

Don't forget JimC's document for the desmog this was the key for me.

This one?

Yes but there is also the entire desmog document that JimC and a couple other forum members put together as a walkthrough on how to do it... It is in my sign in the FSM link, How To Desmog an FJ60. That thing was a lifesaver for me and gave me all the steps necessary.

This one (attached).
