No, I just bought an additional engine to have as a spare.
Can't have too many I guess...

Well still cleaning up parts, getting things ready. Got the old 2H all cleaned up then gotta build a stand for it, wanna start it and take compression before I take the injectors out for test and maybe a rebuild? Thing ran like a champ !! But she was a dirty girl..

Next I got the spare thirds all sandblasted ready for disassembly, had an old 40 housing I decided to use for blasting..

IMG_2295.JPG

Noticed one of the seal deflectors was rusted ! Shoot, now I gotta wait for parts.....The one here is form another model which is not gonna fit right.

IMG_2299.JPG

Thought I could keep going to set up pinion preload will waiting for the deflector, but of coarse I hit another snag.... Could not for the life of me get the crush sleeve to cooperate at all !! there were no tools here to get the job done, not even a 3/4 drive electric impact !! WTF.. Now I'm out a seal and nut to boot....

LH is the new sleeve, which for whatever reason seem's impossible to crush. The centre one's are some solid spacer's I had on hand to put in my 40, and the ones on the RH are the originals. So, no worries I will continue with job with the solid's and be done with it. I thought.. The old spacers came in at 2.135' ish and the solid's come at 2.170 !! FAK, stuck again.....
So, next day waited for my friend to finish his work on his lathe and had him help me cut these down and adjust preload...Man, these thirds are fighting me all the way.

New day, lets get these done. parts came in from Mr Yota. We should be good to go, right ??

Now time to install ring gear on the carrier and cut down some teeth to get the cross pin installed and so forth...

I wish had the cash tho put some air lockers in, but since I use my 40 for the nasty for now, I'm good..
I do have a Detroit I might try ??

Now, time for the carrier bearings, I'm excited to finally have these ready so I can move on to my cut and turned axle.

But Wait.. Not again.. WTF REALLY ?? :bang:

Notice anything wrong here ??

IMG_2308.JPG

o_O :rimshot: :bang:

Great work! Question, why are you grinding the ring gear's teeth down? Can't that be put on after the pin is installed?
I must go back to read and see if I missed anything.

Notice the ID is bigger on one than the other ?? Front side carrier is 45mm and the rear on this is 45mm.So, the bearings in the install kit will not work. Stuck again till new bearings arrive.
Got my new bearings in, but ran into another problem which I should have caught....

Notice how the edge has more tapper to it to fit up against the carrier ? These bearings will not work. @%$&.
Man, these thirds are kicking my arse.. another lesson learned .

To remedy my problem I am gonna grab another carrier from my stash of parts and continue, and just put this one aside for now..

But I can get the front done. speed sleeve's installed with new deflecters, set up of gear's, came across another problem..

Since these gears are so fat, they rub in case .. :bang:

Well...Finally..FINALLY, got the diff's from HELL finished... OMG.

IMG_2346.jpeg

Another little batch of parts came in so I can start working on the backend.

Rear ladder needs spacing some from tailgate,
Bumper swing out locks,
Install some back up lights,
Air bag install,
New exhaust 2.5 inch
Install rear third, so I"ll start with bumper working my way to the diff...

Thats as far as I got today..

Ok, got a little bit done this week before getting shut down by my electricians.. Ha.. Had been waiting a year to have them here to do a Generac plug to the house to run on a generator, new electrical box panel in the shop as my old one was a fire hazard I was told, and some new LED lighting to replace some old burning out stuff... Anyways, back to 60's stuff....

Got the lights cut out of my bumper, had to notch a bit to clear the lockdown mechanism and such, got the ladder kinda figured out but I don't have the proper material on hand to fix like I would want at this time, gonna improvise for now, as I don't want to build a new ladder right now..

As for the ladder, well its made in tube and have pipe only and my bender is pipe also, so this is gonna be the fi for now...

IMG_2356.JPG
IMG_2358.JPG

So I decided to use some leftover tabs here to kinda hide the fact that my (elbows) are pipe size. I will use these tabs to make a soft step a little lower from these.

IMG_2364.JPG
IMG_2367.JPG

As for the lock tabs ( T handles) I have I don't think I can make the work as they are too short and the T handle makes them hard to place. Looking for other models with a knob instead but can not find any yet ???

Got the air bag kit from @slocruisers installed, pretty excited about these !! Decide to modify the top brackets on the kit as they made the bags slant to one side and just weld a tab on the bottom shackle plate, also cut the u bolts down a bit..

HAHA,
Yup, trying really hard to get it all done, all except the interior that is. Yup those diff's did kick me in the arse, but hey, said it before, thats how I will remember how and what to do for the next ones and got to spend some time with my Pop's so.. All good.
As for the bumper I can not take credit for that, it 's a 4PLUS bumper from Lc wizard that came on the 62 I had picked up.

Ok so, had ordered some more parts from RuffStuff for my cut and turn job, and those came in also..
So today I started to tear apart some stuff on the front end to get the old housing out,

No, r u kidding me :bang: 2500KMS.
