Well, I hate that I'm even having the thought of this... but I'm putting some feelers out for a trade. I've had Shirley for 2 years. This is my 3rd land cruiser and 6th Toyota 4x4 (two 60's, a 40, and three 4Runners). I'm sure I'll regret letting this one go just like I did with the others... Shortly after we bought her, my wife got pregnant. Now with a 1 year old, a major kitchen remodel, and many other things going on I find myself wanting to enjoy my free time instead of tinkering with what is no doubt, an awesome ride.

UPDATE: Wife is preggo with #2. Would really like to get in something with airbags.

So here's what I would be looking for:
A 95-97 FZJ80 or LX450 thoughtfully built or stock under 200k or recent engine maintenance done. Not too picky on colors.

Here's what I have... Shirley.

She's a special girl and obviously part of the family. Almost 275k on the clock, but $16k was spent in 2005 on revamping all of the mechanicals including a new (yes, brand new) 2F short block, a reman. H55F 5 speed, and many other things that were put in at 200k. So basically what you have here is a 75k mile FJ60. I have the receipt, along with a thick folder of other receipts. She's on a 2" lift (CCOT HFS I believe), 33" KO2's were put on within the last 1000 miles or so (with the discount tire warranty). It's de-smogged with headers and fresh OEM carb from Mark's Offroad. A lot of the rubber under the hood has been replaced in the last year. Rust free frame and 99% rust free body.

She's not without flaws though. When I bought her, the driver side rear door was caved in from a deer hitting the side. I've popped it out the best I can and it looks a lot better. Didn't want to replace the door or have body work done because it's original paint - some cool patina along edges from 30 years of waxing.

Here's what I've done over the two years:
  • New AISIN clutch master and slave cylinders
  • New back hatch lift struts from CruiserYard
  • Removed the amps, capacitors, and subs (for now)
  • Tuffy center console
  • New power steering hoses
  • Homemade aluminum roof rack purchased from Mud member
  • New CSF radiator
  • All new OEM radiator hoses via Beno
  • Valve lash adjustment to OEM spec
  • Rebuilt Aisin carb from Mark's Offroad
  • New vacuum lines
  • New OEM carb insulator
  • New OEM valve cover gasket, grommets, oil cap gasket
  • OEM fuel filter
  • OEM distributor rotor
  • DENSO spark plugs
  • Fan shroud mod
  • New OEM motor mounts
  • Replaced starter with used unit out of 150k mile truck
  • New speedometer cable from CruiserCorps
  • New hood bumper stops

I'm not even sure this would be of interest to any 80 owners, but 60 prices are on the rise, so it could turn out to be a good investment for someone.

Thanks,
Nick

Have you thought about a GX470? They have a 3rd row, safety features, V8, and an acceptable tow rating too. They are priced in your range too. You have a very nice 60 but it sounds like my 80 is way too far from what you want.

If I were to go the IFS route, I would do a 100 series.

Let me know what you have.

How about a 2000 150k LX470 in Maryland? Timing belt/waterpump service was just completed by OTRAMM. Recently added 275/70-18 Firestone MTs. New starter, new radiator, AHC fluid flushed and system works well. Nice and cushy! I bought it last year with 136K.

Just toying withe the idea of trading it and/or my FJ60 SOA project truck..... Too your truck isn't still in Tysons Corner!
