This is not the start of the build thread for my fj55, but I did want to post some pics of what I did to the 2F this week. I picked up an airbrush for the first time and tried out a practice panel.

And proceeded to learn how to do flames

And then added layers and candy tints to finish

My wife has been calling me "Flame Thrower" and now wants me to paint something of hers

Now I need some advice. What type of connector goes to the factory oil pressure sensor and is there a VDO gauge sender that I can replace it with that will fit the factory sensor hole? Anyone know?

Pardon the derail, how long did said learning take? Looks like you picked it up quick, gotta be good for double the HP

I built models as a kid - sometimes still do so I have hand skills for fine work. Never had an air brush though.

I used House of Kolor paints and the colours came as a kit for flames from a local body paint supplier. I found Mike Lavallee on line and he's an airbrush artist KILLER PAINT that paints autos. He sells a DVD that walks you through how to do it.

I watched the DVD several times and then tried it. I have a TV and DVD player in the shop so I could literally follow along step by step.

I did the practice panel in about an hour and half and put about four hours into the motor.

The world Master at painting flames!! Those look really cool.

Yup, and as it happens this motor is from an 1985 FJ60.

The truck this is going into is never going to be a pristine restored classic. So after building seven trucks, I'm combining my parts to build up the 55. Going a little over the top! I laughed as I picked up the header from the chrome ceramic coating shop.

So much 2F bling its silly ---- but FUN!

You can screw a tee into the factory oil sender boss, then you can run the factory gauge and an aftermarket. The British threads are a little different taper bet with a little teflon tape I never had a leak.

Time for an update. I've been assembling and I'm just about done. I have to clock the distributor to Top Dead Center, install the fuel pump and adjust the valves and then its on to the tranny.

I also modified and rebuilt the holly carb. I threw away the fuel bowl with the center hung float

And replaced it with a side hung float bowl with off road needle and seat. It helps with off camber and vibration

And also extended the vent tube. Looking around the shop I got lucky with a hard brake line 5/16ths I never used and it was a press fit

Pics as it is right now

Where’d you score the header, looks great. The whole package is nice!

It's from Downey. Header, carb and cleaner. No longer in production but @Downey is on the forum. He provided me suggestions on the carb ages ago.

It is a nice package. Kind of why I went all out with flames and other dressy bits. Seems to fit!

It came from a 60 that made its way up here from the US

You really polished that turd

Yup a bona fide JDM boat anchor.

Interestingly torque specs to displacement is similar to the 1FZE
