Funny!

The PO had cut the metal fuel line shorter to fit the original holley carb when he installed the Downey air cleaner. Since I changed out the fuel bowl to one that had a side hung float (less issues on climbs and camber) I had a small problem.

The routing of the fuel line meant that I had to run rubber hose with the fuel filter in line and kind of dangling. I did some asking around and yes you can bolt a bracket to the intake manifold and route the hose through it and many manufacturers do this but I didn't really like the idea.

I had some rubber grommets and some stainless sheet so I made a bracket for the fuel filter:

And now the routing is tidy:

I do not want to run hose all over and would not be able to secure it well either. The stock configuration runs a hose from the valve cover to the air cleaner and there is provision in the Downey unit to put fittings in to do this. It would mean I have a floppy chunk of hose running on top of the motor or routed around the engine bay.

I cut slots in the valve cover vent tube to accept the ribs in this K&N breather so it won't pop off and I'm pretty sure this will be fine.

Has anyone tried a breather and did you have any issues? I'd like to know now before I start running this thing.

Thought I'd show the spark plug wire configuration. I used the MSD crimp your own wires kit. Allowed for tidy wire placement:

The motor is reassembled now so its now time to work on the five speed conversion.

My experience with valve cover breathers is on higher reving sports car motors...they make a mess, we usually went with a line to catch can & then vented that, but a slow reving land cruiser six may be just fine?

Thanks, then I'm going to figure out a way to route the hose to the air cleaner or likely do the catch can thing. I like that!

K&N have not done well in dusty conditions. My only thought would be to make sure you find the foam outer cover to
grab the worst of the dust before it hits the filter.

Yup, ditched my K&N for my regular rides years ago. Not much choice available though.

Foam hat - not a bad idea
