Build My $1500 82 fj60

I saw this on Craigslist and I couldn’t pass it up. Even though I should have. I’m sick, I’m sure you all understand.

It’s an 82 with a sbc, ranger overdrive, OME(is it though?) suspension. Running and driving. And lots of rust.

Drove it around a bit, took it to hidden falls and the transfer case keeps disengaging the front wheels while in 4wd.

First pic is the day I bought it. After the hidden falls trip i dug right in to the rust repair.

Rebuilding the windshield frame was quite the project. Would not recommend doing it. I got some seats from a junkyard Mercedes ml350. The original ones were pretty rusty.

WOW!!! You are a trooper for taking that on!! Nice fab work so far!
For the t-case kicking out in 4wd, make sure there is nothing blocking the shift lever underneath so it is not fully engaging.

I ended up rebuilding the t-case. It needed it. Was toast from too long drive shaft. Will explain in following posts.

Woah dude. My rust repair I’ve been dreading suddenly looks like nothing.

dynamat knockoff on the roof. Transfer case bearings were toast due to the drive shaft being completely compressed. I had a driveshaft shop take about an inch and a half (I think) out. They put new yokes and spline on it and balanced andpainted it.

Paint prep, primer, and color coat. Turns out the aftermarket windshield is slightly larger than the original. After breaking a new windshield trying to install it, I had to cut, hammer, re weld, re body filler, and repaint the frame. Not my happiest moment.

New headliner, new carpet($30 worth of Walmart area rugs) and a shift knob for the ranger overdrive that I designed a d 3d printed to match the t case style

Now for the fun stuff, winch bumper! Made from donated Jeep winch plate, harbor freight 12,000 lb winch, and pieces of a junk fj55 I have sitting outside, you know....for the sake of brand loyalty

Refurbishing the front end bling.

35’s and beginning of rear bumper fab. Using the rest of the 55 junk front bumper and a custom made tire swing out, also made from pieces of the ridiculous front bumper that was on the junk 55. The swingout kit (bearings and housing) I got from amazon.

Rear bumper continued. This is where I’m at now, hoping to have the rear bumper finished and painted today and hidden falls next weekend! Followed by big bend in November. Then back to work on my 40.

Test fitting, needs some adjustment at the mounting points. Overall very happy with it so far
