"The Help" is hilarious. My wife had read the book and was talking incessantly about it so I took her last night. Luckily I fandangoed our tickets...line wrapped around the foyer!
The movie followed the book closely and was hilarious, thought provoking (about civil rights) and will probably mop up awards for costume, supporting actress, lead actress, drama, set design etc.
The Mayflower (downtown restaurant), Brent's Drug Store, and the FairView Inn are all in the movie as notable landmarks of the 50s and 60s. Word has it they were all redone as they were during that time period and it was really neat to see them with Tbirds and 50s models Chevys parked out front.
Take some tissues for the wife as some of the relationships in the movie are tear jerkers but the movie is excellent.
The Fandango preview even had 2 of those hilarious puppets talking in the middle of a neighborhood street...to their right in the background was a mud covered 40 grill which my wife actually pointed out...they zoom out enough to see the front fender well and bumper but that's about it.
Great movie to take the wife too, esp. if they have read the book or are involved in Jr. League of Jackson which is NOT shown in a good light!!
I think it's PG13, they say "s***" twice due to a hilarious scene and I think that's about it. Oh one graphic scene with some blood where a lady miscarries a baby but it's very brief.
Most of it was actually filmed in Greenwood and some of the aerial shots depict the old downtown Greenwood along the river (I assume it's supposed to be the Pearl) but anywho.
Good movie....will certainly earn many awards
