While doing little looking it appears they have a few very nice hj45's and a 40. All look restored but I'm curious who is doing the restorations and any kudos or stay away from this dealer?

id like to know just how much they want for there cruisers!!! They have been going up for auction for months and never selling. Just keep relisting them...

A dream come true for the EBay Corporation. :)

"Did Toyota produce the HJ45 in 1985?"

No, nor did they texture coat the entire body, bezel, and grille, or add a pickup bed off a different model.

There are reasons the Costa Rican and Colombian imports keep getting recycled for sale--could there be something hiding under all that lipstick?

I think it's actually a BJ45 and if I'm not mistaken there were a few early 85s sold, the 13bt is a nice addition. The bed looks to be from a 79 series truck. I called about the three trucks they have been listing on ebay and was told their reserve on this one was around 35k... I sure wish someone would go take a look at these and report back on their true condition.

Too many unknown for me, hopefully I'm wrong and someone gets a stellar vehicle.

My guess would be that you would need a lot of praise from previous buyers before any Cruiser would bring 35K.

Take a search on "esmeralda". i am doing a true frame off on a Colombian Cruiser FJ40. I am nearly finished. We dont have many FJ45 pickups here for some reason. I have personally seen over 25 trucks for sale here and I liked about 2 or 3 of them. Granted I was looking for a rust free example to export for a business. I am pretty certain that those great looking in photos trucks are not that great in person.

There are different prices for different levels of quality of course. And disclosure is everything. I am showing off everything bec I want to build a good reputation. I don't see that having something painted down here is necessarily bad but why not say where it was done? In fact I think that the restoration can be done as well or better than the USA.

I remember seeing those trucks and I was hoping they would sell for more but I think they must have been average quality restorations. I think they went from $29K to $25k and have been hanging around.

Here is my 1983 FJ40. Frame off engine out. 6 layers of PPG brand paint. no bondo, paint booth and parts painted separately.

Not to highjack the thread I just remember oogling over those trucks trying to figure out what the market is doing and whether they were really nice or not. Any comments or criticisms will be well received. if not for this forum my truck would not have turned out nearly as nicely.

Red HJ45 reserve is at $23300 - FYI if its a central american truck - there is NO way they can show its original miles and 1 owner .... But still real nice looking rig.

I flew down there and looked at them. They have more hj's than the sight reports. The Wagon that they have for sale is unbelievably nice. It was unreal! I flew with poser down there to look at them and we ended up buying one. If a had some more cash burning in my pocket I would get the troopy. It's so damn clean. It almost looks like it's off the dealer lot. Body is straighter than any I ever came across. The next truck in line would be the red one. The actual bed floor is questionable on that one. I would ask for pictures of it if before I handed over the money. The dealership owner is rick and I would work with him. They where very easy to deal with as It was a pleasure.

That Troopie is nice looking but I'm a little surprised that someone would go to the trouble to paint this truck and then decide to just rivet the old emblems on. I seriously doubt the mileage with all the restoration work that has been done. Where's the spare tire carrier? Lastly, what is up with that ID tag? It's not right. It's screwed on rather than riveted and the color / trim code is 8012 which is not a code I can identify. The stamping is not right either. Compare it to the ID plate from a Freeborn Red 1980 Colombian truck I have. Something strange going on there?:meh:

I stopped in Carrolton at Motorcars of Dallas in August. Their vehicles are coming out of Costa Rica and are 'restored' down there. They are importing these Toyotas by the dozen. My opinion in looking at the 4 bj-hj's that they had when I stopped in was that they were well over priced. I've been thinkng of taking a trip to Costa Rica myself and putting a couple cruisers in a container. Diesel cruisers can still be had down there for $4-8000. Coming out of Costa Rica any vehicle has almost certainly had the odometer tampered with.

When I was there I believe that they had 8 of them. Two of them had not been restored. The other have been in Costa Rica. Being in the 45 market for a while I've learned that price is subjective, being if your the buyer or seller. People just don't what to let go of their 45's. Also what the published price isn't the dollar amount they are set on either.

I'm glad I stumbled upon this thread...search function didn't work for $h!t. I guess what I've come away with is they may have a decent vehicle from time to time, but most of them are overpriced and of questionable history/condition.

I was looking at the tan troopy as well and the data plate looked suspect to me too, and I'm new to Land Cruisers. It reeked of "gasoline overhaul".

I'm in Dallas, so if anyone wants me to take a look at a vehicle over there (or anywhere in DFW area) I'll be glad to help. I don't really know what I'm looking for, but I'm pretty good at following directions and taking pictures.

Has anyone seen the tan Troopy in person? Seems as though the lines are straight and I love the fact that it's diesel. Seems clean even if the odometer reading seems impossibly low (55k miles for a 1981?). If I were closer to Dallas, I would definitely check this one out!

[EDIT] Sorry - read the entire thread (posted above too fast) and saw that Tepper has checked it out in person. Will check in with him.

They still have one on Ebay. Was $19000 and change last year. Now down to $13,980. Look sweet, but definitely nothing original about it.
