Motor swap

I have an 84 2wd with 22re and and 88 4wd with 22re was just making sure that the motors would swap because the 84 is the taller block. Both are 5 speed. Thanks in advance

In theory, the 84 should not be a 22re. It should be a carbureted 22R. If indeed it's a 22re , then it's a transplant since EFI was not offered until the 1985 model year (starting 8/84) in the mini-trucks and 4Runners.

The engines will swap, regardless. I thought 1984 was the transition year to the shorter block. If both are EFI, then sensors and I believe injectors will be different.

So I should just have to swap intake systems?

If they both have the newer style head, you should be OK. I that the 88 and newer re's used a different style of connectors.
