There is a similar thread in both the 100 and 200 Classifieds Sections, makes sense here too. These trucks are changing hands at a rapid rate these days, having consolidated live market data is a nice thing for both buyers and sellers.

If you have recently bought or sold an 80 series and are comfortable sharing the details, post it here.

Went for $17k. Possibly due to being high miles and ending on a Monday with no competing bidders at the end. Nice deal for the winning bidder.
I think it was a tad light as well. Seems like a 40th would attract a few restoration folks but might also run away guys looking for a driver to build. Probably a small sub set of the 80 crowd who see value in paying up for the 40th bits. Air bag popped may have also hurt it. I think it was a solid truck just needed a few thousand for a cosmetic restoration then you are still left with the high miles. I bought a rig in a bit better shape recently for a lot less.

Hello,

I am sorry if this is the wrong thread or an inappropriate request, but I was hoping to get a ball park estimate for how much I should be asking for my '97 LC.

I bought it about 3 years ago for a passion project and just have not been able to find the time to commit to it. I need to buy a new daily driver and frankly just don't see how or when I will be using it in the future.

It has 207k miles with a new head gasket job done at 202K; has all three lockers, a 2.5" old man emu lift, new front leather, pioneer stereo with navigation, new 295 BFG AT's. No rust and only a minor dent on rear tailgate (size of a quarter). No running boards and the antenna is missing, both that way when I bought it.

Anyways, just trying to get a range of what I might expect to be able to get for it. I've never used any of the auction sites but I would like to list it on here so at least a fan of 80 series can buy it. Thanks for the help, and again apologies in advance if this is inappropriate.

Leave the running boards off, get some front mudflaps, fix the dent with pdr, fix the antenna, get it detailed, take some really good pictures and wait 2 months for your truck’s turn on bringatrailer. If it’s in the shape you say it’s in, it should hit at least $30k. If you’re lying to us, take it to a shop and have all the little issues addressed. If you bought the truck 3 years ago, you probably have way less than what it’s worth into it. Any dollar you put into it, you will get back. That doesn’t work for every car out there, but it does with most land cruisers at this point in time.

Thanks for the reply, I appreciate the info. I was thinking it was worth a lot less than that based on a couple of trade in quotes and local Craigslist, so that’s good to know.

I goggled the pdr and will give that a try. I will also fix the antenna and source some mudflaps.

I’ve read this site for a few years now and always appreciated the tech forum and love the community around these vehicles. Sad that this will likely be my last chance to own one but I’ve enjoyed every second of it besides the day I blew a gasket. Thanks again.

Color? Original paint or very high quality repaint with few imperfections? Undercarriage condition? Ownership history?

There are lots of details that determine if it is a $15k or a $30k rig.

There are collector quality rigs and there are used 80 series, that is where the current 80 series market is today.

It is a wide range right now. Originality and condition make the difference between a $10k truck and a $30k truck. Sounds like yours is pretty nice. Photos would help determine the price point. A quality, professional detail clean up is worth every penny prior to sell. If it is truely rust free then DO NOT let the detail folks paint the wheel wells or any part of the frame to make it look better.

A rust free 1997 is worth quite a bit even with the miles. Photos please.

Appreciate the advice. I will definitely get a professional detail and photos done and post them here in the future. Thanks.

Base model Tacoma take off wheels. Absolute top tier cruiser here.

hahahaha------- I have a 93 with 35k miles. I should ask this guy to sell for me - ridiculous
With brilliant marketing such as below (from the ad), I'm sure you could beat the BAT record of $136k for the 1k mile Cruiser with their help!!

Fully kitted out. 197k. Sold for $26,250+ fees.

And the misaligned front bumper. Dealers like this are terrible.

I dont this thats a terrible price for that truck. I definitely don't think its a good deal either.
I'd like to see some more maintenance records and ideally a hg job at that price but maybe in this market that's asking too much.

Would agree, that's about what it should sell for with the 5%, possibly transportation and anything else that needs to be done, both buyer and seller should be reasonably satisfied.

We hear about the "deals" people find on 80's , but almost never one with Mods, those spend enough time here to know what they have!

I'm sorry if lots of people ask for estimates on this thread, but I figured this is probably the best place to do ask. I have a beige 97 triple locked LX with 215k miles on it. It's pretty built out with 4x4labs sliders and rear bumper, comeup winch, slinky lift with icon shocks, and 315 BFG KM3. The head gasket and front axle have both been done in the past 30-40k miles, AC system completely redone, and other random work done as well. It's in pretty good shape for the most part, no rust, the underside is solid, leather is good, but it's not a show truck. The main downfall is that it got into a wreck a couple years ago and was declared totaled. It was just the front end and there was no structural damage and no airbags deployed, but it is now a rebuilt title. Other than that, the paint is a 6-7/10 I would say, and there's a couple minor things I need to get done before I'd sell it.

What roughly would y'all guess I could get for it? I honestly haven't even really thought about selling it, but I saw prices have gone up so much it's tempting me to sell it and buy an old diesel ford excursion or maybe a 60 series cruiser.

Here's a couple pictures for reference and thanks for any insight!

As a general rule of thumb salvage/rebuilt title vehicles are worth between 1/3-2/3 the value of a non salvage vehicle with the delta being the reason for salvage and quality of repair.

I hope that helps, but difficult to determine without inspection and drive with that type of history.

Looks like a fun truck and likely more practical than a 60 and certainly more than a diesel Excursion. I would suggest it remain in the hold category!

Of course that is all opinion, so it isn't worth too much!!!

82k miles. nice interior. One day left. Currently at $18k bid.
