After going to the Rubicon last Oct with my pretty restored camp stove, I was pretty bummed at the end of the trip to find it had got scratched up pretty bad bouncing around in the back of the truck. I had it in a cardboard box and had it tightly wedged so it wouldn't get rattled around too much, and it still managed to get banged up a little.

It got me thinking that it would be cool to have a padded bag, like for a laptop, for my camp stoves. My wife and I are starting a company and we thought it might be a cool product to make and sell.

I have a pretty good collection of camp stoves for sizing.. but wanted to see if I was missing anything as far the what size bags we should look into.

I've got a slim green propane colmen one, like 99% of people use. I've got a 413E gas stove.

It seems to me those two are the most common sized stoves. I also have an old 20's or 30s colmen that's a bit bigger and has iron parts and Sears gas stove that's a total oddball size. But as far as the common sizes it seems like the 413 and the slim propane ones are the two sizes I see a ton of.

Any other really common sized stoves out there that I'm not thinking of?

Only other besides the propane and the shorter iso canister, would be the Jetboil which I see frequently.

btw, I hate when I lose the cap to my propane bottle and it seeps all the way home in the back of my truck. Keeping the cap and maybe a storage bag like this would help.

I like the idea, but as a business venture, I'm going to play devils advocate here......

A laptop is $800+ and is breakable, a camp stove is $80, made of metal and won't break. If you put a towel around it and secure it properly in the truck, it'll be just fine. Camp Chef and Coleman do have bags for their stoves, while not padded they probably will prevent most scratches.

So what you need to ask yourself is what percentage of stove owners who do not already have a bag will feel the necessity to buy a custom padded bag? Could be a lot of people, or not so much.

My girlfriend has a off brand stove that came with a bag. It looks about the same size as my Coleman. I think scratches and dents add character so I haven't thought of seeing if it fits.

I'll buy a 413E bag from you. I use a 413E and an F which share the same case size.

One that fits a 426 size (3 burner) would be good too. Happy to send measurements

It's not so much the scratches, it's to quiet down the rattling during transport.

Here's my 413F almost identical to the E;

Wow!

Tried to order 3-not in stock. Reduced my order size to 1-it must be the last. Thanks for the heads up. Wish they had some double ones but only the triple seems to be available.

Andy, fold a piece of cardboard and put it inside the stove on the grill part. It will hold the windscreen tight against the top and stop 99% of the rattles.

As far as the OP: Gas stoves are so cheap at garage sales I never worry about scratches. I passed on a nearly new condition early model unleaded stove last week that was going for $20 and included a Bellman stovetop espresso/cappuccino machine and a gallon of Coleman fuel. I got the Bellman for $3 :grinpimp:.

I'm weird about all my vintage Coleman stuff and try not to scratch it. I've tried to find a bag for my stove but never found one. I use a small pillow case usually, but would be able interested in a double burner bag.

Yeah, most of the time I wouldn't really care, BUT.. the I have two that I'd rather not get beat up. They are just really nice and different ones that you don't see everyday.

I am not saying I'm going to make a killing on these, simply it was something I wanted, and figured we'd add to the line up of stuff we're making as an option for those who do want something.

I bought the double size a few years ago...again on sale but not that cheap! Maybe check back and see if they come back into stock downstream a few days/week/month.

Mine has held up just perfectly. HD real zippers, HD fabric and quality construction...not the typical chinese junk which is what you'd expect even at the regular price.

I bought a Coleman carrying bag for my Coleman camp stove. Weird thing is it must have been made to fit their older models, as the new stove (blue one with a burner on the side) doesn't quite fit. Works good enough though, and has a pouch on either end to stuff in the little 1lb bottles.

Coleman makes several different cases for their stoves...just looks like I bought the wrong one.

I use plastic 9x12 padded envelopes inside my Coleman 2 burner to cut down on the rattle noise more than anything. Lay one on the grill, fold the windscreen flaps in, then another padded envelope on top of the windscreens, then snap the lid closed.

As the blueridge overland gear website pointed out, covering the stove is more about protecting the rest of your gear from the stove than protecting the stove itself. I pack mine into a Pelican box along with the 8 foot hose and connecting pieces. Not terribly worried about scratching the stove (its also covered in off-road stickers). I just wouldn't spend the money on a transit bag for a stove. Before the Pelican cases, I just wedged it between other gear in my rig or trailer.

Yeah, I understand that most people likely don't care much, but there are some people out there who are anal about keeping gear in good shape. I just wanted to make myself one and figured there were others out there who might want one, once it's made and we had a pattern it would be an easy thing to replicate if someone wanted one.

Like I said, not looking to make a lot of money on these, just something I wanted and figured why not sell a few too. Trying to build up a good amount of products to sell... hate seeing websites that have 3 items for sale. haha
