Hello,

I figured I would reach out to the cruiser community first. My family of four including two dogs will be spending 16 days driving around BC with high hopes of camping in remote locations along the way. We will not be staying in hotels. The only plans we have are we must be in Tofino to fish on August 14th. We plan to fish other places also, but are not sure as to where as of yet. This trip is all about gathering food as we go, and exploring different wild places, we as a family hunt and fish for the majority of our yearly sustenance.

I am very open to putting the LC on a ferry and heading north to Graham island??

Any thoughts/ideas are greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Josh

Hey, when you get over the border get a copy of 'Backroads Mapook - Vancouver Island'. It will have all the
current backroads with access. They also have a fishing version of this as well, so if you are looking for the
hot spots it has them all. Make sure you get a licence, you can actually buy it online and print it at home.
Fishing & Hunting - Province of British Columbia
I won't be there sorry to say, but have a good trip. I'm sure lots of guys here will pipe in with ideas.

Perfect.. Thanks for the intel. I will get on the license's. Also I was thinking of bringing atleast a shotgun. I know you have to fill out a form and pay 25 dollars. Is this a crazy idea? I am not accustomed to traveling unarmed. Do you guys think this is going to cause me undue headaches with authorities?

It will not cause real problems. You have absolutely no need to carry on Vancouver Island. Its a harmless
place, enjoy the concept. Don't just show up with a gun, they'll seize it. Call ahead.

I think Radd cruisers in duncan has a fair amount of stuff for 80 series . A lot of stuff you can get from lordco as well .

you can stay a nite here in my yard if you want, in Nanaimo on way to tofino we can talk guns and old times

If you have issues, or if you don't have issues, drop by anyhow

don't bring your shotgun. And if your travel plans are not set in stone, come up with a set in stone plan to give customs any way (how long you're staying, where, what you're doing, not leaving anything behind, etc) if they ask if you have weapons you want to tell them an absolute definite "NO" . Stuff we see as completely innocent down here in Montana, they will deny you entry for, switchblades, tazers, etc. and if you've ever been arrested in your life you better do some research on that subject too before you go.

If I ever get my work finished this summer, you guys are welcome to come out on our boat, we're in Sooke

Yeah we are good to go as far as any issues with arrest records. Any issues with bringing bear spray? I do have a small raft I can deflate and load on the roof. Would that be handy to have with us? We will be bringing 4 mountain bikes.

Thanks for all the info guys!!

Bear spray is cool I think. If you're coming fishing with me it's open ocean trolling. FYI a saltwater license is cheaper than a freshwater. I don't know about tofino, but on the southern end there's no salmon coming up the river yet anyway. There's some calm waters you could use your raft on in my neck of the woods, but it's too windy by noon. Hopefully I can get out of dodge and get up there soon.

Bear spray might be an issue, I had some coworkers get grilled about it out by the Stewart Hyder border crossing, they were insisting that it met Canadian standards, which it did as we bought it for them through work here in Canada.
Cheers,

Hey. I'm mid island, if you're in Courtenay/Comox let me know, have access to some land if you need a camp day close to town. I will Probably be doing some camping mid island around the 15th to the 20th.
North of Courtenay there are some great Lakes to visit near Morton lake provincial park. Good road access to many camp sites.
If you are going farther north. The Adam and Eve rivers have some great camping and excellent recreation sites just north on the ocean.

Southwards of all that. Port renfrew and Pachena bay are amazing places. Island favourites for sure.
