So, did you go anywhere else after leaving the meadow or just head home? Hope the :princess: got the VM I left about you hanging in the meadow with the hookers for an extra day or two. ;)

thanks for letting her know. She asked how much money they gave me... :D

I finally decided to go West (being a young Man...:)). Wanted to see the Kern river. Lots of campgrounds. A bit hot after the mountains. Will go back when cooler.

Howling with laughter - you must be a rich man! ;)

Yep, there are several national park campgrounds along the Kern as you head into Kernville. Most are very exposed and hotter than hell during the summer. Even right in Kerville at Frandy Park it gets very hot in mid May. Glad you had fun and saw some sights you hadn't seen.

Until next time...

So how would an "offroad" pop up with 30" tires work?

If it's the relative size of an AT type trailer, probably OK. There was a group across the river and I think four in the group had offroad trailers they hauled back to where we were. Don' t know about the tires tho. All the AT's had larger offroad tires IIRC.

might be OK if it's not one of the long ones. there weren't any real tight turns on the ingoing trail that I recall. Still might take some care though.

but the road is not that smooth. As I said before, I'm not convinced that the offroad popups are that sturdy. And you'd have stuff inside banging all over the place.

This is a bit hard, but Dana and I were planning on doing this trip again this year, so I was thinking of keeping the date close to the same, but it turns out that conflicts with Dana's birthday, which is the date for a tree dedication. This trip was planned the day before Dana passed away. He had also wanted to explore the southern part of Death Valley.

So, would Sept 24-25 work for people?

The plan is to go to Monache Meadows and explore the area. We did not plan on doing the Sherman Jeep trail again, but people can do that if they want to, just not as part of the trip. Just be sure to bring enough fuel. It is possible to do a hike as well. The main thing is to explore the area and remember Dana.

There is a second thread on this.

Correction, it would be Sept. 24-26, Friday through Sunday.

If you are thinking of going, please let me know so I can get an idea of how many people and what works best for everyone.

Also, let me know if you have a HAM radio (what bands would be helpful as well) or a CB radio. If you have a HAM radio, it might be possible to use a linked repeater system to communicate on the drive up (Winsystem). We might even be able to hit the repeaters from up there.

It might also be helpful to keep the posts in one thread:

Anyone else interested in this trip? I am trying to get a list so we know who to expect.

I am again planning this trip. The tentative date is Sept. 16-18, but getting up there late Friday or Saturday is fine. Not much of a plan once up there, although I might do a hike this year.

I've put these dates on my calendar Ken. Look forward to it again! You going to try to get their early enough to grab the same site as last year?

Quiet, you not supposed to tell people that :-). Yes, I am planning on going up on the 15th. I like that site :-).

I was talking about your disclosing that I was going to leave early!!! :-)
