When you install the Overhead Console in the 80 series, the US Visors don't work well because they extend into the console.

I figured If I messed up modifying my visors, then I would have to order ones from overseas, which is what I would have to do if I didn't modify them.

You can take the approach to take them to an upholstery shop and they should be able to do this fairly easy for you. I was thinking about this and the next thing I knew I had my knife in hand cutting the visor.

The first thing I did was take the blade and cut the seam where it sticks out to far

Next step, peel back the material

I then took a bolt cutter and cut the excess support bar, don't cut it back all the way, because you will want to bend it in and use it as support for the new external surface

Next step is to cut the excess foam and cardboard out, trimming it up to make a flush surface

Then bend whats left of the support bar in. I also had to trim back on the seam a bit where it had started to extend to get the material and the bar flush

Fold the material over to ensure you have it trimmed correctly and the bars have been bent in the proper orientation.

Trim and bend as needed till you can bend the flap over and have a smooth surface

This is the time you want to make a decision. It will likely look much better if you take it to an Auto upholstery shop and it will be fairly inexpensive.

I decided to press on since I have a set of visors I ordered 90 days ago that I may actually see one day. The part you trim and glue is also obscured by the console, and the real reason is I don't have a lot of patience and wanted to get it done

So I trimmed up the edges a bit better

Used stuff called goop

Pulled the seams together using masking tape and used the tape to hold it while it dried.

There is a small piece of tape on the visor in the last photo thats hard to see as It's holding the touch up of a corner.

I'm happy with it.

This is jditom's visors. He took them to a shop and they do better. The point is you don't have to order new visors

. After looking into how expensive they are I went to a local auto/boat upholstery shop and they cut the ends off and sewed them to look OEM for $20!

Agree with Ken and elmarachi.

Took mine to a car and boat upholstery shop and they cut, glued and sowed them up for $20. Close up shot.

Pardon the ignorance, what is the cost of the correct style visor? I'm assuming over $200?

The "correct" visors with the lights and mirrors, in tan/oak, are no longer available from Toyota.

When they were, it cost something like $120-ish/each, or something like that.

This is a better (and the only) way to go if you get the overhead console AND have the tan/oak interior.

Nice work guys!

I was contemplating using one of these consoles to mount my scangaugeII. I was worried that I would have to modify my visors to do it. During this period of comtemplation I took my wifes RX300 out for a drive and noted that the rx300 visors are nearly the same and have a fancy garage door opener in them. Since then I have been waiting for a good set to come up on ebay.

Yours look great Jim

Thanks Ken. The driver's side took 5 hours because I would glue an inch then tape it for 10 minutes to set, then trim and glue again. Like CDan said, PITA.

Have you measured them, do they fit and do they mount the same way?
