Tony Ps winch....

Couple videos of the pull, nothing exciting. Very cautious, slow going.

So what was wrong with the spot for Markuson on Hell's Gate? Should he have stayed higher on the right? Also, what did he do to climb out of it?

The spotter turned out to be a side-by-side guy...who gladly drove his side-by-side right into the crack with his right side tipped against the V. By bad spot...he means his spotting led me right into the bottom of the crack the same way...which could have easily crushed my side panels. If spotting someone on Hell's Gate, you want to keep the driver's passenger side well up the passenger side slant ...so you straddle the "V" rather than allowing the passenger side to go to the bottom of the V.

At that point, it took a brief tug from a winch before I could drive up and out. Amazingly, my rear bumper took ALL of the side hit, and my panels were untouched. Very fortunate.

It really shouldn't be all that difficult, provided the spotter knows to keep high on the right side.

Interestingly, the descent that you drop down through (which never tends to be posted on YouTube) that gets you to the bottom of Hell's Gate...is far more spooky than the famous "V" going up. :) If you take a bad line, or brake/speed is off...over you'll tumble.

Thanks. I am by no means a spotter - having almost no experience. But looking at the video my first thought was that your right tire was not high enough on the V. Glad your bumper worked as protection. You have really made the most of your recent investments/upgrades! Bumnper here and bull bar with the deer.

Ya, the front bumper paid for itself & probably saved my Breck trip by saving my radiator...and my rear bumper easily paid for it's pricier self on Hell's Gate. -All in perfect view of my wife...who now FULLY endorses my upgrades! :hillbilly:

While any mistake is ultimately on me... -The Hell's Gate near-miss is the first scenario where I really think having a front facing camera might have red-flagged me. Front cameras are of limited use, but in this case...had I been able to see where I was, relative to the angle on the right, I'd have known where I was being led...fired that local spotter Donald Trump style...and had Kamal take over! :) Kamal is a civil engineer...and no stranger to the basics of physics...and it shows when he's spotting.

I would absolutely do Hell's Gate again...but lesson learned!
