I have my 71 FJ55 which I got from my dad when he died. I was in the process of fixing it up to closer to original cosmetic shape. The frame, all running parts are original - nothing trick. My "dear" husband at the time!! had some body work done and a utility paint job on it as an anniversary present. Now in the divorce he is stating he "restored" it, and claims it is worth $10,000.00. The motor is original, has been rebuilt once. I have redone the seats (SOR) I haven't touched it since he left 2.5 years ago - lack of money. Thank God I never figured out how to install the entire rubber kit which is still sitting in the closet! Where and how would I get it "officially appraised? I have to find out how much value was added to the vehicle with the paint job - the vehicle itself is mine - yeah, go figure:bang:

Receipts, receipts, receipts. Burden of proof is in his hands if you ask me. Also I think you can get a contract on him for less than 10k. There are some good pig hearders on here than can get a better idea of worth. Good luck.

detailed pictures, would help, especially underside/backside of rocker area, lower front fender area and rear sill since, if the body work was shoddy, that's where most of it will be.

how long ago and how many miles since the engine was rebuilt? same question on the "restore"?

do you have receipts for any of the work done?

There have been some in the classified section that could give you a better idea of it's worth. You could always drive it to Spector Off Road or TLC in San Fernando Valley.

Or you could just sell everything to me for $1000 and then he wouldn't have anything to argue about.:D

no really...

First good chuckle of the day.....thanks Pablo!

HAHAHA - no wonder I love you guys so much!! I did get an appraiser out here yesterday, who took many pics of all suggested here. Receipts aren't of any value - he has a "personal assistant" who is handy with any and all receipts. The guy who did the work is a friend of his. I just need to find how much value the paint job (his idea of a restore) added to it. He claims it was not a gift. And I have heard bullets are only $0.32. I did like the idea of the paint stripper - I think he is a tad upset because I do get the 3000 foot garage he built on my property next door. Any one need space in the desert? Close to the Hammers.

I'm gunna say that the pig is only worth what someone will pay you for it. If it is in your name, you should "sell" it to someone close to you...and then it will be worth what you were paid. just make certain that you "sell" it to someone who wants to "give" it back to you as a gift.,.... boy, I think we've all crossed over the grey zones here:lol: maybe get the mods to derete this thread after there is a resolution for you.....;)

Well, for $275.00, I got a real, official car appraiser out here. He said the truck is worth about $2500.00 based on ebay and craigslist ads he documented. And in his professional opinion, the "paint job" added zero value due to poor workmanship. Kinda bugged me to read all that is wrong with my truck, but in reality, it is a $10,000.00 value TO ME!!

I will be glad to be able to start working on it again - but at least it is now in the garage being protected. Anyone know where the thread for the back window motor is?

Thanks for all the help - especially the humor - suzanne
