Had problems getting one of the bearings off the shaft… had to use an old trick with a new tool.. It popped loose before I cut all the way through.

Idler shaft was worn pretty bad..

Overall, the rebuild was much easier than expected.. I reused the shims that were original to the TC. The preload was a little on the tight side, but still in specs.

Did you need a press or special pullers to get all the bearings out?

Does the adapter allow you to separate the transmission & transfer without splitting the case? If so, could you assemble the case & install after it's all together?

fans look like they have some nice motors....

keep up the good work...looks good, I'll be interested how the electric fans play out in the hot temps.

I did not use any special pullers.. I used a press and a normal gear puller. I did have problems with one of the tapered bearings... I cut it off with a dremel tool (small cut off wheel). Yes, I cannot think of any reason why you could not remove and install the TC and adapter together. You would want to be careful. Also you would want to fit the adapter first to get the speed sensor set first before you put it all together.

I will let you know on the fans... I have the same setup on my 69 K10.. Running the same engine and transmission.. No problems in the 100+ heat here in Oklahoma..

Nice work, keep it up!

Just one thing i'm curious about, why is Vortec engines so common in engine swaps?

Thanks

Great power, low cost, very dependable, light weight, etc...

Got the fuel system completed.. I used the existing Land Cruiser fuel lines. Although they are metric, the SAE flare nuts fit them well. I cut the metal line and double flared.

Dude, I'm 100% jealous of your skills. I've got a 62 project truck that I need to swap a 3FE in to. I bought a running 1991 Cruiser for that purpose. Even though it's a direct swap (or mostly direct...) I'd love to have expertise like yours.

Beautiful truck and gorgeous work!

Air Intake I wanted to use the factory 5.3 air box.. It was just too big for the area I wanted to put it in…

Transmission lines – I normally would use metal tubing and bent them to fit.. But there really wasn’t a good path to run them. So I went with braid stainless hose - -AN6

The engine fired right up.. I let it run for over 30 minutes.. It went up to temp and the fans came on and cycled. Had good oil pressure. The engine had been setting for a long time, and I have an injector or two that needs to be cleaned. I hope to get everything finished up this coming weekend and take it for a drive..
